Plot

The Powerpuff Girls are manipulated by a gnome who offers peace in Townsville in exchange for their superpowers. Initially tempted, the girls relinquish their abilities, but they soon discover the gnome's sinister intentions. In a climactic sequence presented as a musical, the girls regain control and defeat him.

Broadcast history

The episode first aired in the United Kingdom on October 23, 2003, and later in Canada on YTV on March 18, 2004. [1]

Although originally intended to air in the United States, See Me, Feel Me, Gnomey was pulled from Cartoon Network’s schedule. The decision was made due to concerns that certain visuals in the episode including imagery of beams of light forming crosses and the gnome’s resemblance to a messianic figure could be interpreted as religious symbolism. [2] [3]

The episode was later released on home media, including the Powerpuff Girls DVD collection in 2009, and has since been made available on digital streaming platforms such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. [4]

Reception

While not widely reviewed at the time of production, the episode has drawn attention in retrospective discussions of television censorship. Media outlets such as Collider and PopCulture.com have cited it as one of the most prominent examples of a Cartoon Network episode withheld from American broadcast due to religious concerns.
