History

The Seirom project was conceived in 2011 after composer Maurice de Jong had reached a creative exhaustive point with his other active projects. "I started to feel burned out. I think all the negativity (in my music making) kind of had an impact on me. I needed to do something positive." He independently released Eremitic on June 6, 2011. 1973 was released on November 9, 2012 and featured a lighter more positive tone compared to Seirom's debut. [2] [3] On May 1, 2014 the third full-length album And the Light Swallowed Everything was released and received positively, with Kez Whelan of Terrorizer describing the music as "hauntingly, harrowingly, luminously beautiful." [4] Seirom's fourth album I Was So Sad was released on July 8, 2016.

Gnaw Their Tongues is an experimental musical project started by Dutch multi-instrumentalist and composer Maurice de Jong, otherwise known as Mories. It was founded in 2004 and produced a debut album in 2006 titled Spit at Me and Wreak Havoc on My Flesh. The output of Gnaw Their Tongues is extensive, with over seventy releases being attributed to its name. The name of the project is taken from passage 16:10-11 from the Book of Revelation: "The fifth angel, who poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds."

Maurice de Jong, known by his moniker Mories, is a Dutch composer and musician. He is best recognized for his multiple music projects, namely Gnaw Their Tongues, Seirom, Aderlating, Cloak of Altering and De Magia Veterum. His compositions are informed by ambient music, black metal, drone music, electronic music and the avant-garde. His interests lie in invoking a disquieting and nightmarish atmosphere with his music, which often utilizes distortion and dissonance. Lauded as a most prolific composer, de Jong has recorded an upwards of three albums per year since 2007.

De Magia Veterum is an avant-garde metal musical project founded by Dutch multi-instrumentalist and composer Maurice "Mories" de Jong in 2003. In contrast to de Jong's other work, the music of De Magia Veterum is decidedly electric guitar-based and heavily indebted to black metal music. Allmusic credited the discography with "redefining the limits of extremism through pure sonic annihilation."

Cloak of Altering is a black metal musical project founded by Dutch multi-instrumentalist and composer Maurice "Mories" de Jong in 2010. The project was a continuation of his Ophiuchus project which began in the late nineties. Seven full-length albums have been released: The Night Comes Illuminated With Death (2011), Ancient Paths Through Timeless Voids (2012), Plague Beasts (2014), Manifestation (2015), I Reached for the Light that Drowned in Your Mouth (2017), Zero Devil (2018) and Sheathed Swords Drip with Poisonous Honey (2021).
