Sekonda is a British wristwatch manufacturer. [1] Established in 1966, [2] Sekonda watches were originally produced in the Soviet Union, at the First Moscow Watch Factory in Moscow and the Petrodvorets Watch Factory in Leningrad. [3] Many Soviet-era Sekonda watches exported to the West were re-badged Poljot and Raketa watches.

The 'Sekonda' brand was created by ChasProm in 1966 for the export of the best watches from all the USSR's watch factories, including Slava. The factories that built Sekonda watches (generally relabelling their other brands) were: [4]

They ran a TV advert featuring the band Madness in 1990.

Following the breakup of the Soviet Union, Sekonda no longer has Russian ties and all its watches have been produced from factories in Hong Kong since 1993. [2] Sekonda also markets watches under the sub-brand SEKSY for ladies' fashion, ONE for men's fashion and Xpose for rugged outdoor lifestyles of either gender. Between 1998 and 2002, Sekonda was the title sponsor of the Superleague, then the top flight division in British ice hockey, and the precursor to the Elite League.

Poljot, is a brand of Soviet/Russian wristwatches, produced since 1964 by the First Moscow Watch Factory. The flagship brand of the USSR's watch industry, Poljot produced numerous historical watches used in many important space missions, including the world's first space watch worn by Yuri Gagarin.

Vostok Watch Makers, Inc. is a Russian watchmaker based in Chistopol, Tatarstan, Russia. The company produces mainly rugged military and amfibia mechanical watches. It also makes clocks and watch movements for other watch brands.

Slava watches were classic "civil" Russian watches. The Slava factory was the second non-military watchmaker established in the Soviet Union, in 1924. The watches of this brand have always been intended for civilian consumption, without military or aerospace pretensions.

The Petrodvorets Watch Factory is one of the oldest factories in Russia. Founded by Peter the Great in 1721 as the Peterhof Lapidary Works, to make hardstone carvings, since 1945 the factory manufactures the Soviet Pobeda watches and since 1961 it has manufactured the Soviet Raketa watches. In almost 300 years of history, the factory has changed name several times. Petrodvorets is located in Saint Petersburg.

Pobeda is a Russian brand of wrist-watches owned by the Petrodvorets Watch Factory "Raketa". The brand name was chosen by Stalin himself in April 1945, when he gave the order that the first watches be ready for the 1st year of Victory celebration. The first prototype came out of the Penza factory by the end of 1945, and the first model for the public came out of the Kirov Watch Factory in March 1946.

Amfibia is a Soviet watch that in the West would be called a Dive watch. Produced in large quantities for the Soviet and Russian military, these watches gained significant popularity worldwide. The Vostok watch factory created the first Soviet Amphibia watch in 1967. Around the same time, Raketa also started producing a diving watch. Poljot followed with their own version in 1972.

Alexander Shorokhoff Uhrenmanufaktur is a German company producing mechanical luxury wristwatches with highly artistic design. The headquarters of the company is located in Alzenau, Germany. In September 2017, the manufacturer celebrated its 25th anniversary. Annual sales number approximately 1100 pieces.

Commissioned in 1957, for several decades it has been the largest children's department store in the Soviet Union, most innovative for its time and a must-visit place for several generations of Muscovites.
