Somaliland, officially the Republic of Somaliland, is a de facto sovereign state in the Horn of Africa, still considered internationally to be part of Somalia. Somaliland lies in the Horn of Africa, on the southern coast of the Gulf of Aden. It is bordered by Djibouti to the northwest, Ethiopia to the south and west, and Somalia to the east. Its claimed territory has an area of 176,120 square kilometres (68,000 sq mi), with approximately 5.7 million residents as of 2021. The capital and largest city is Hargeisa. The government of Somaliland regards itself as the successor state to British Somaliland, which, as the briefly independent State of Somaliland, united in 1960 with the Trust Territory of Somaliland to form the Somali Republic.
Togdheer is an administrative region (gobol) in central Somaliland. Togdheer is bordered by Maroodi Jeex to the west, Saaxil to the north, Sanaag to the northeast, Sool to the east and Ethiopia to the south. Its capital is Burao.
Marodi Jeh is an administrative region (gobol) in western Somaliland. It is the most populous region of the country. It is bordered by Awdal to the west, Sahil to the north, Togdheer to the east and Ethiopia to the south. Marodi Jeh was created by splitting the previously existing region (gobolka) Woqooyi Galbeed in two, the other part being Sahil. In 2007 the region of Woqooyi Galbeed was renamed to Maroodi Jeex. Woqooyi Galbeed was thus much larger than Marodi Jeh.
The regions of Somaliland is divided into six administrative regions, Awdal, Sahil, Maroodi-Jeeh, Togdheer, Sanaag and Sool. These are in turn subdivided into twenty-two districts. Regions of Somaliland are the primary geographical divisions through which Somaliland is administered. A distinction is made between districts of grades A, B, C and D, with the classification being based on population, area, economy and production.
Naasa Hablood, also known as Virgin's Breast Mountain, are twin hills situated in Maroodi Jeex, Somaliland. Located on the outskirts of the city of Hargeisa, they are made up of granite and sand. The hills were dubbed Naasa Hablood due to their distinctive conical shape and resemblance to thelarchic breast buds.
Laas Geel, also spelled Laas Gaal, are cave formations on the rural outskirts of Hargeisa, Somaliland, situated in the Maroodi Jeex region of the country. They contain some of the earliest known cave paintings of domesticated African aurochs in the Horn of Africa. Laas Geel's rock art is estimated to date to circa 3,500-2,500 BC.

Baligubadle is a town in the southern Maroodi Jeex region of Somaliland. The locality serves as the capital of the Baligubadle District, an administrative subdivision of the Maroodi Jeex region that was created in 2019, and straddles the border with the Somali Region of Ethiopia. The Governor of Maroodi Jeex is the chief executive of the Somaliland region of Maroodi Jeex, leading the region's executive branch. Governors of the regions is appointed to the office by the Somaliland president. The current governor of Maroodi Jeex is Mahamed Cilmi Ahmed Mahamuud.
Jama Haji Ahmed is a Somali politician, who is currently serving as the Governor of Maroodi Jeex region of Somaliland since January 2018.
Toon is a town in the Maroodi Jeex region of Somaliland. Situated in Salahlay District, it is well-known for being the birth place of the Isaaq Sultanate, a Somali Sultanate that ruled much of Somaliland from the mid-18th to late-19th centuries.
Mandera is a town in the Maroodi Jeex province of Somaliland. Situated in the Hargeisa District, it is located northeast by road from Hargeisa and southwest of Berbera.
Baligubadle District is a district in the Maroodi Jeex region of Somaliland. The district was created in 2019 and was carved out of the wider Hargeisa District. The capital of the district is Baligubadle. which straddles the border with the Somali Region of Ethiopia.
