The Sera A is the top-level of association football in Somaliland. It was first contested in 2001.
Awdal is an administrative region (gobol) in western Somaliland. It was separated from Woqooyi Galbeed and became a province in 1984 and is the most northwesterly province of Somaliland. To the east it borders Maroodi Jeex and Sahil; to its north-west it borders Djibouti; to its south and south-west lies Ethiopia; and the Gulf of Aden to its north. The province has an estimated population of 1,010,566. The region comprises the four districts of Borama, the regional capital, Baki, Lughaya, and Zeila.
Togdheer is an administrative region (gobol) in central Somaliland. Togdheer is bordered by Maroodi Jeex to the west, Saaxil to the north, Sanaag to the northeast, Sool to the east and Ethiopia to the south. Its capital is Burao.
Marodi Jeh is an administrative region (gobol) in western Somaliland. It is the most populous region of the country. It is bordered by Awdal to the west, Sahil to the north, Togdheer to the east and Ethiopia to the south. Marodi Jeh was created by splitting the previously existing region (gobolka) In 2007 the region of Woqooyi Galbeed was renamed to Maroodi Jeex.

Naasa Hablood, also known as Two Breasts Mountain, are twin hills situated in Maroodi Jeex, Somalia. Located on the outskirts of the city of Hargeisa, they are made up of granite and sand. The hills were dubbed Naasa Hablood due to their distinctive conical shape and resemblance to thelarchic breast buds.
Laas Geel, also spelled Laas Gaal, are cave formations on the rural outskirts of Hargeisa, Somaliland, situated in the Maroodi Jeex region of the country. They contain some of the earliest known cave paintings of domesticated African aurochs in the Horn of Africa. Laas Geel's rock art is estimated to date to circa 3,500-2,500 BCE.

Baligubadle is a town in the southern Maroodi Jeex region of Somaliland. The locality serves as the capital of the Baligubadle District, an administrative subdivision of the Maroodi Jeex region that was created in 1991 after regaining Somaliland independence, and straddles the border with the Somali Region of Ethiopia. The town has approximately 18,000 inhabitants.

In 1998, the Sheikh District of Togdheer was incorporated into Sahil region. The region has a long coastline facing the Gulf of Aden to the north. Sahil borders Awdal to the northwest, Maroodi Jeex to the southwest, Togdheer to the south and Sanaag to the east.
The Governor of Maroodi Jeex is the chief executive of the Somaliland region of Maroodi Jeex, leading the region's executive branch. Governors of the regions are appointed to the office by the Somaliland president. The current governor of Maroodi Jeex is Mohammed Ahmed Alin.
