Serengeti International Hospital, also Serengeti Hospital, is a public community hospital, under construction, in Serengeti District, Mara Region, in Tanzania. The hospital is intended to serve the needs of both the local population and the tourists visiting the nearby Serengeti National Park.^[1]

Serengeti District is one of the seven districts of Mara Region of Tanzania. Its administrative centre is the town of Mugumu. It is home to part of the world-famous Serengeti National Park and contains one of the western gates to the park.

Mara Region is one of Tanzania's 31 administrative regions. The regional capital is the municipality of Musoma. According to the 2012 national census, the region had a population of 1,743,830, which was lower than the pre-census projection of 1,963,460. For 2002-2012, the region's 2.5 percent average annual population growth rate was the thirteenth highest in the country. It was also the twelfth most densely populated region with 80 people per square kilometer. == The neighboring regions are Mwanza Region and Simiyu Region, Arusha Region, and Kagera Region. To the northeast, the Mara Region borders Narok County and Migori County in Kenya. The Mara Region is the home of Tanzania's first president, Julius Nyerere. The Mara Region was also the birthplace of Benga music.

Tanzania, officially the United Republic of Tanzania, is a country in eastern Africa within the African Great Lakes region. It borders Uganda to the north; Kenya to the northeast; Comoro Islands at the Indian Ocean to the east; Mozambique and Malawi to the south; Zambia to the southwest; and Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, is in north-eastern Tanzania.

Location

The hospital is located in northeastern Tanzania, in Serengeti District, Mara Region, adjacent to Serengeti National Park.^[1] This is approximately 125 kilometres (78 mi), by road, east of Musoma, the nearest large city.^[2] This is about 660 kilometres (410 mi), by road, northwest of Tabora, the capital city of Tanzania.^[3]

Musoma is a city in north west of Tanzania. It is the capital of Mara Region, one of the administrative Regions of Tanzania. It also serves as the administrative centre of Musoma Rural District and Musoma Urban District.

Tabora is the capital of Tanzania's Tabora Region and is classified as a municipality by the Tanzanian government. It is also the administrative seat of Tabora Urban District. According to the 2012 census, this district had a population of 226,999.

Overview

The hospital is being built in phases. The first phase, planned to cost US$1.5 million, consists the outpatient department, and is expected to be complete by December 2017, with anticipated opening in January 2018.^[1]

The hospital is expected to cater to the Tanzanian citizens resident in 78 villages within Serengeti District and to the almost 400,000 tourists who visit the adjacent Serengeti National Park every year.^[1] The construction is funded by the government of Tanzania with contribution from the Tanzania National Parks.^[1]

The Serengeti National Park is a Tanzanian national park in the Serengeti ecosystem in the Mara and Simiyu regions. It is famous for its annual migration of over 1.5 million white-bearded wildebeest and 250,000 zebra and for its numerous Nile crocodile and honey badger.

The Mara River is a river in Narok County (Kenya) and in Mara Region (Tanzania), and lies across the migration path of ungulates in the Maasai Mara/Serengeti game reserves.

Mwanza is a port city on the southern shore of Lake Victoria in north-western Tanzania. With a population of more than 800,000, it is Tanzania's second largest city, after Dar es Salaam. Mwanza is the capital of the surrounding Mwanza Region, and is administratively divided into two municipal districts within that Region - Ilemela and Nyamagana.

Bunda District District in Mara Region, Tanzania

Bunda is one of the seven districts of Mara Region in the United Republic of Tanzania, East Africa. It is bordered to the North by the Musoma Rural District and Butiama District, to the east by Serengeti District, to the South by Bariadi District and Busega District, and to the west by Lake Victoria. The district administration town is also called Bunda, located on the north-south trans-national all tarmac highway from Kenya to Zambia via Tarime and the lakeside municipalities of Musoma, Mwanza, and thereon to Mbeya in southern Tanzania. The district has four divisions, namely: Kenkombyo, Nansimo, Serengeti and Chamuriho.
