History

Set Fire to Flames was initiated by David Bryant. The group released two albums on Alien8 Recordings and FatCat Records, on their own imprint, 130701, which was set up in 2001. [3] The first album, Sings Reign Rebuilder . was released in October that year. [1]

The ensemble's second album, Telegraphs in Negative/Mouths Trapped in Static , followed in 2003. [4] It was recorded in a barn in rural Ontario; the sounds of the creaking doors and other background noises are heard behind the songs.

Both albums contain brooding, eerie music. Many of the tracks are minimalist, [1] filled with ambient noise and various other non-musical sound effects, juxtaposed or combined with instrumental music. [4] Both album cover images display the work of photographer Michael Ackerman.

A third album was recorded in collaboration with the band Jackie-O Motherfucker but never released. In 2009, a composition from the band's first album was included on a compilation album released by 130701. [5] In 2016, a previously unreleased track was issued on 130701's 15th-anniversary compilation Eleven Into Fifteen.

Noise gate Audio processing device

A noise gate or simply gate is an electronic device or software that is used to control the volume of an audio signal. Comparable to a limiter, which attenuates signals above a threshold, such as loud attacks from the start of musical notes, noise gates attenuate signals that register below the threshold. However, noise gates attenuate signals by a fixed amount, known as the range. In its simplest form, a noise gate allows a main signal to pass through only when it is above a set threshold: the gate is "open". If the signal falls below the threshold, no signal is allowed to pass : the gate is "closed". A noise gate is used when the level of the "signal" is above the level of the unwanted "noise". The threshold is set above the level of the "noise", and so when there is no main "signal", the gate is closed.

Crystal Castles (2008 album) 2008 studio album by Crystal Castles

Crystal Castles is the debut studio album by Canadian electronic music duo Crystal Castles; at the time of its release, the group consisted of producer Ethan Kath and singer Alice Glass. The two met each other in 2004 and both had an interest in noise acts like AIDS Wolf & The Sick Lipstick. This inspired the two to start a noise music project, but instead of guitars, they would use electronic sounds made with a circuit-bent Atari 5200–which effectively led to the media pigeonholing the act as chiptune, despite the fact that the members themselves didn't deliberately intend this.
