Sophie Trudeau is a Canadian musician. She is best known as a member of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, [1] and co-founder (with Efrim Menuck and Thierry Amar) of Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band. [2] She also plays in a number of other bands, including Valley of the Giants and The Mile End Ladies String Auxiliary.

Biography

Trudeau first served as violinist for Godspeed You! Black Emperor on their first EP, Slow Riot for New Zerø Kanada , which was released in 1999. Trudeau went on later to co-found Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band, where she serves as one of two principal violinists. [3] Trudeau has also played the bass guitar on The "Pretty Little Lightning Paw" E.P. , [4] as well as trumpet on Horses in the Sky . [5] She is also credited as playing violin on the Arcade Fire track "Wake Up" from their debut album Funeral . [6]

Sharing the responsibility with the other six members, Trudeau sings with Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band.

Trudeau was also the founder of Bangor Records. [7] Its roster included her string trio project, The Mile End Ladies String Auxiliary, for which she played violin, along with Beckie Foon of Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band on cello and Genevieve Heistek of Hangedup on viola. Their first album, From Cells of Roughest Air, was released by Bangor Records on 1 January 2005. [8] [9] She was also a member of Diebold, a duo who released an album on Bangor in January 2007. [10]

In 2006, Sophie, with Efrim Menuck and Thierry Amar, assisted in the recording of Carla Bozulich's first release for Constellation, Evangelista. [11] [6]

The group releases recordings through Constellation, an independent record label also located in Montreal. Their second album, 2000's Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven, received critical acclaim and has been named as one of the best albums of the decade. Constellation Records is a Canadian independent record label based in Montreal, Quebec. It has released albums by many post-rock bands, including Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band and Do Make Say Think.

Hangedup was an experimental rock duo from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, featuring Genevieve Heistek on Viola and Eric Craven on drums and percussion. They combined viola with strong percussion, sometimes using self-made instruments, to create intense experimental Post-rock music.

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra is a Canadian post-rock band that formed in 1999, originating from Montreal, Quebec. Variations of the name used on the band's releases include A Silver Mt. Zion, The Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band, The Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-La-La Band with Choir and Thee Silver Mountain Reveries; the group uses the shorthand SMZ and its name is most often simplified to Silver Mt. Zion. 13 Blues for Thirteen Moons is the fifth full-length album by the Canadian post-rock group Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band. The album was released in March 2008. The album consists of an instrumental feedback intro, split into twelve extremely short tracks, and four full songs, which had been played live on recent tours. Band member Efrim Menuck stated that the idea for the 12 short intro tracks initially was suggested because the band wanted the album to start on track 13. The deciding factor for including the tracks, however, was that "if people tried to play it on their iPods, on shuffle mode, it’d blitz their iPod."

At the Cut is a 2009 album by Vic Chesnutt. It was his penultimate album release before his death on December 25, 2009, from an overdose of muscle relaxants. The song "Flirted with You All My Life" alludes to Chesnutt's own attitude toward suicide, including his previous attempts to take his own life. Along with North Star Deserter, this album features various members from the Canadian post-rock band Thee Silver Mt.
