Shadowbox (Bengali: Baksho Bondi) is an upcoming Bengali-language drama film co-directed by Tanushree Das and Saumyananda Sahi in their directorial debut. The film starring Tillotama Shome as Mays is set against the backdrop of a dusty Kolkata suburb, and is a powerful narrative of love, resilience, and the quiet strength of a working woman. [1] [2]
It was selected in Perspectives at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival and will be screened on 16 February 2025. [3] [4]
Maya lives with her husband, Sundar, and their son, Debu, in a Kolkata suburb. She works multiple jobs to support the family, while Sundar, an ex-soldier with Post-traumatic stress disorder, faces ridicule. Debu cares for his father, torn between love and embarrassment. Maya’s family offers no support, disapproving of her marriage. Despite her urging, Sundar refuses to work. One night, he disappears and becomes a murder suspect. When he returns days later, terrified and hungry, the family faces its greatest test.
Shadowbox will have its world premiere on 16 February 2025, as part of the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, in Perspectives. [5] [6]

Tillotama Shome is an Indian actress known primarily for her work in independent films. She began acting with a supporting role in Mira Nair's film Monsoon Wedding (2001). She won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress for playing the lead role of a housemaid in the drama film Sir (2018). Shome has also starred in the films A Death in the Gunj (2017) and Lust Stories 2 (2023), as well as the television series Delhi Crime (2022), The Night Manager (2023), and Paatal Lok (2025).
