Shahjahan Bahini (Mostly known as Force of Captain Shahjahan) [lower-alpha 1] was a sub-sector in the Bangladesh Liberation War. This force was established by Captain Shahjahan. [1] [2] [3]

Formation and merger

In the Bangladesh Liberation War, When Captain Shahjahan established his sub-sector in southwestern Bangladesh, the Gafur Bahini merged with this force. Later on, this force became larger and became known as the Force of Captain Shahjahan. [1] [2] [3]

Military engagements

This force fought Pakistani troops in many parts of southwestern Bangladesh and conducted several operations coordinating with other Bangladeshi militias. Captain Shahjahan helped the Kuddus Bahini by giving them arms, ammunition support and military guidance including the launching of military operations. [1] [4]

In the novel, by means of an engrossing fictional story which skilfully incorporates various historical figures and many true incidents as well as the author's own personal experiences. The novel was translated into English as Liberation: Josna O Jononir Golpo by Roger Gwynn.

Baten Bahini was an armed guerrilla force formed in Tangail district in support of independence during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. It was named after its leader, Khandaker Abdul Baten. Throughout the war, it conducted a number of successful guerrilla campaigns in Tangail, Manikganj, Pabna, Gazipur, Sirajganj and some parts of Dhaka District. They were operated under 21 companies, 63 platoons and 100 sections. Abdul Baten led a number of guerrilla attacks.

Dewan Mahbubur Rob Sadi Chaudhuri was a 1971 Liberation War veteran and war hero who led the Jalalpur sub-sector as sub-sector commander of the Mukti Bahini under Sector Commander Maj Gen C. R. Datta. Sadi was awarded Bir Protik on 15 December 1973 for demonstration of personal acts of valor during the war. He was elected a member of parliament in 1979. Besides being a freedom fighter and politician, Sadi was also a singer, poet, columnist and songwriter. He was an active columnist for the Manab Zamin and his articles and letters appeared in various national and international newspapers and magazines like The Economist, The Daily Star, The Daily Ittefaq and Prothom Alo. Sadi served as the executive director of Delta Life Insurance Company Ltd, and later founded a socio-political organization named Centre for Democratic Practice, dedicated towards fostering democracy and national consciousness and consensus in Bangladesh.

Akbar Bahini was a volunteer force during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Akbar Hossain Miah was the Chairman of Srikul Union in Sreepur PS of Magura District. Immediately after the outbreak of war, Akbar Hossain devoted himself in organising a group of fighters. The majority of the members of Akbar Bahini were extracted from amongst the locals of Sreepur area, but, also included members of the East Pakistan Rifles. Akbar Hossain Miah, formed a group of freedom fighters 'Akbar Bahini'. Akbar Hossain was the commander, and Mollah Nabuwat Ali was its deputy commander.

Latif Bahini was a militia during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Abdul Latif Mirza was a member in the Bangladesh Forces. He planned to build a force in Vodroghat village under Kamarkhand Police Station in Sirajganj District, Rajshahi Division.

Gafur Bahini was a militia that was formed in the beginning of the Bangladesh Liberation War. Abdul Gafur, Mohiuddin Manik and Benilal Das Gupta took an initiative to create a force, that would fight Pakistani troops in Barisal, It later on merged with the force of Captain Shahjahan.

Halim Bahini was a militia in the Bangladesh Liberation War. Captain Abdul Halim Chowdhury, a retired officer who later on became a member of the National Awami Party (Muzaffar) organized a force.

Kuddus Bahini was a militia during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Abdul Kuddus organized a force in Muladi, Barisal.

Aftab Bahini was a militia in the Bangladesh Liberation War. This militia was located at Mymensingh. This group was intended to resist Pakistani forces in Mymensingh Area. This group was known for resisting Pakistani occupation in Mymensingh.

Khalil Bahini was a militia during the Bangladesh Liberation War.

Force of Engineer Abul Hossain was a group under Sector-11 of the Mukti Bahini, in the Bangladesh Liberation War. Abul Hossain, an engineer, who later on organized a force.
