Shamanuru Shivashankarappa (b. 16 June 1930) is a politician from the state of Karnataka and a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Davanagere South Assembly constituency. [4] [5] He is the oldest serving member of State Legislative Assembly in India.
A veteran congressman,he has been the treasurer of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee for the past three decades and is also the president of All India Veerashaiva Mahasabha,the apex body of Veerashaivas. As a well known educationalist and industrialist,he is the chairman of Bapuji Educational Association which owns a chain of educational institutions including Bapuji Institute of Engineering &Technology and many professional institutions of higher education, [6] and also owns a group of industries known as Shamanur Group,which have sugar and distilleries as their prime business. He was the co-producer of the 1970 Kannada movie Boregowda Bangalorige Banda .
His son S. S. Mallikarjun,Minister for Mines and Geology,Horticulture Government of Karnataka,is a Member of the Legislative Assembly representing Davanagere North Assembly constituency.
Haradanahalli Doddegowda Deve Gowda or Devegowda is an Indian politician who served as the Prime Minister of India from 1 June 1996 to 21 April 1997. He was previously the 14th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1994 to 1996. He presently is a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha representing Karnataka. He is the national president of the Janata Dal (Secular) party. Born in a farming family,he joined the Indian National Congress party in 1953,and remained a member until 1962. He was imprisoned during the Emergency. He became President of the state unit of Janata Dal in 1994,and was considered to be a driving force in the party's victory in Karnataka. He served as the 8th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1994 to 1996. In the 1996 general elections,no party won enough seats to form a government. When the United Front,a coalition of regional parties,formed the central government with the support of the Congress,Deve Gowda was unexpectedly chosen to head the government after V. P. Singh and Jyoti Basu declined the post and he was elected Prime Minister. During his tenure as prime minister,he also served as Home Minister for some time. His prime ministerial tenure lasted for less than a year. After his prime ministerial tenure,he was elected to the 12th (1998),14th (2004),15th,and 16th Lok Sabha,as Member of Parliament for the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency. He lost Lok Sabha elections in 2019 from Tumkuru but has been elected to Rajya Sabha since.
Davanagere is a city in the centre of the southern Indian state of Karnataka. It is the seventh largest city in the state,and the administrative headquarters of eponymous Davangere district. Hitherto being a cotton hub and hence popularly known before as the Manchester of Karnataka,the commercial ventures of the city is now dominated by education and agro-processing industries. Davanagere became a separate district in 1997,when it was separated from the erstwhile undivided district of Chitradurga for administration conveniences. Davanagere is known for rich culinary traditions which encompass the diversity of entire Karnataka's dishes due to its geographical position in the state as its centre. Siddaramaiah,also referred to by his nickname Siddu,is an Indian politician who is serving as the 22nd Chief Minister of Karnataka from 20 May 2023. He also held that position previously from 2013 to 2018,being only the second person to hold that office for a full five-year term. He belongs to the Indian National Congress and is presently the leader of the Congress Legislative Party. He represented the Varuna Assembly constituency from 2023,previously from 2008 to 2018,Badami Assembly constituency from 2018 to 2023,and Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency from 2004 to 2007,1994 to 1999,and from 1983 to 1989 in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He also served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly on two occasions,from 2019 to 2023 and from 2009 to 2013. Siddaramaiah was a member of various Janata Parivar factions for several years.
The Government of Karnataka,abbreviated as GoK or GoKA,formerly known as Government of Mysore (1956–1974),is a democratically elected state body with the governor as the ceremonial head to govern the Southwest Indian state of Karnataka. The governor who is appointed for five years appoints the chief minister and on the advice of the chief minister appoints their council of ministers. Even though the governor remains the ceremonial head of the state,the day-to-day running of the government is taken care of by the chief minister and their council of ministers in whom a great amount of legislative powers are vested.

Davanagere City Corporation (DCC) is the civic organisation that manages the municipal affairs of Davanagere City in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is the 6th largest Urban Local Body in Karnataka. The town administration of Davanagere city was upgraded as a Municipality in c.1870 and later as a City Corporation on 6 January 2006. The Municipal Corporation mechanism in India was introduced during British Rule with the formation of municipal corporations in Madras (Chennai) in 1688,later followed by municipal corporations in Bombay (Mumbai) and Calcutta (Kolkata) by 1762. It has a territorial area of 68.63 km2 and a population of 4,34,971,as per the 2011 Census of India. The territorial limits of the City Corporation fall under the Davanagere North and Davanagere South legislative assembly constituencies.
