Shamima Nargis is a retired government Senior Secretary [1] and Chairperson of Bangladesh Development Bank. [2] She is a former member of the Planning Commission. [3]

Early life

Nargis graduated from the University of Dhaka with a bachelors and masters in English Literature. [4] She received a Hubert H Humphrey Fellowship to study at the University of Minnesota. [5] [4]

Career

Nargis joined Bangladesh Civil Service in 1988. [5]

In 2010, Nargis was the Deputy Secretary at the Economic Relations Division at the Ministry of Finance. [6] She then worked at the Local Government Division as a joint secretary. [7]

In July 2015, Nargis was the Additional Secretary at the Economic Relations Division at the Ministry of Finance. [8] She signed an agreement, titled Efficient and Accountable Local Governance, between the Economic Relations Division and the United Nations Development Programme. [9]

In April 2018, Nargis was promoted to Secretary. [10] She was working as the acting secretary at the Planning Commission. [10]

Nargis was promoted in March 2020 to Senior Secretary. [11] She retired from the civil service in October 2020; she was serving as a member of the Planning Commission. [4]

On 15 November 2021, Nargis was appointed chairperson of Bangladesh Development Bank by the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance. [5]

Bangladesh Development Bank is a state-owned specialised commercial bank in Bangladesh. The bank has one of the highest loan default rates in Bangladesh. Shamima Nargis is the chairperson of the bank. Kazi Alamgir is the chief executive officer and managing director of the bank.

Bangladesh Planning Commission is the economic public policy institution of the Government of Bangladesh. The Planning Commission undertakes research studies and policy development initiatives for the growth of national economy and the expansion of the public infrastructure of the country, in tandem under the Ministry of Planning and alongside the Ministry of Finance.

The Bangladesh Secretariat, also known as Bangladesh Sachibalaya or Old Secretariat, is the administrative headquarters of the Government of Bangladesh, and houses the majority of ministries and government agencies and bodies. The secretariat can refer to the complex of ministries, or refer to the Bangladesh Civil Service central administration. The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) is an executive committee under the Cabinet Division of the Government of Bangladesh, which verifies, imports, approves and advances nationally important development projects, regardless of the economic status and economic activities in Bangladesh. Provides formulation, review and approval. Meetings of the ECNEC are usually held in the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar under the Planning Department, Planning Commission.

Sharifa Khan is the chairperson and Md. Shahabuddin Patwary is the managing director of the company.

Naila Zaman Khan is a Bangladeshi neurologist. She was the founder head of the Department of Pediatric Neuroscience, Dhaka Shishu(Children's) Hospital, Bangladesh Institute of Child Health in 1992, till 2018. Md. Mahbub Hossain is a Bangladesh civil servant and incumbent Cabinet Secretary of Bangladesh. Prior to this position, he was Senior Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. He also served as the chairperson of Titas Gas and Gas Transmission Company Limited. He is the chairman of Omera LPG as nominee of MJL Bangladesh Limited. He is a director of Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited.

Fatima Yasmin is a Bangladeshi bureaucrat and vice-president of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). She served as senior secretary of the Finance Division. She is the first female Secretary of finance division in the history of Bangladesh. Before, promoted to senior secretary to the Finance division she has served as secretary at Economic Relations Division since Feb 23, 2020. Prior to this position, she was Vice-Chairman, Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Ministry of Commerce and Director General, Institute of Public Finance (IPF), Ministry of Finance.

Sharifa Khan is a Bangladeshi civil bureaucrat and the second female secretary at Economic Relations Division, Ministry of finance Bangladesh since 17 July 2022. Prior to the current position, she was a member of the Agriculture, Water Resources and Rural Institute Division of the Bangladesh Planning Commission.
