Shane Clipfell (born August 29, 1963) [1] is the current head coach of the Western Michigan University women's basketball team. [2]
He accepted the head coaching position at Western Michigan in April 2012. [3] Prior to Western Michigan he was on Suzy Merchant's staff at Eastern Michigan from 1998 to 2007 and Michigan State from 2007 to 2012. He was acting as the head coach for much of the 2006–07 season while Merchant was on maternity leave. [4] Early in his career he was an assistant coach and the head coach at Glen Oaks Community College and Colon High School. [5] He compiled a 58–35 overall record at Glen Oaks. [4] His 1997 team finished ranked #3 in the NJCAA and he was National District Coach of the Year. [5] He led the Colon Magi to seven league titles, a Final Four, and a 185–65 overall record in 11 total years at the helm and was Michigan Regional Coach of the Year in 1992, 1994 and 1995. While an assistant at Eastern Michigan he earned a bachelor's degree in communications. He and his wife, Connie, have two children. [1]
University Arena is a multi-purpose arena on the campus of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, United States. Located in Read Fieldhouse, the arena opened in 1957 and is home to multiple Western Michigan Broncos athletic teams, including men's and women's basketball, women's gymnastics, women's indoor track and field, and women's volleyball. The facility seats 5,421 people. Read Fieldhouse was named for Buck Read, WMU head men's basketball coach from 1922 to 1949.
Tangela Nicole Smith is an American former basketball player in the WNBA. Smith played the bulk of her career for the Sacramento Monarchs and the Phoenix Mercury where she won two WNBA Championships. She's currently an assistant coach at Northwestern University.
The Western Michigan Broncos football program represents Western Michigan University in the Football Bowl Subdivision of Division I and the Mid-American Conference (MAC). Western Michigan has competed in football since 1906, when they played three games in their inaugural season. In 1927, WMU joined four other schools to form the Michigan Collegiate Conference. Western Michigan then moved to its present conference in 1948. Prior to 1939, Western Michigan's athletic teams were known as the Hilltoppers.
The Western Michigan Broncos are a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I program representing Western Michigan University (WMU) in college athletics. They compete in the Mid-American Conference in men's baseball, basketball, football, and tennis; and women's basketball, cross-country, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, track and field, and volleyball. The men's ice hockey team competes in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference and the men's soccer team competes in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Broncos also have a flight team, the SkyBroncos, who have won the National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) National Championship award five times.
Stephen Greg Hawkins is an American college basketball coach. He is currently an assistant coach for Southern Illinois. He had previously served as the head coach at Western Michigan University and Quincy University.
Suzy Merchant most recently served as head basketball coach for the Michigan State University Women's Basketball team. She is married to Gary Rakan and has two sons, Tyler Rakan and Brady Rakan.
Herbert William "Buck" Read was an American basketball coach. He was the head coach for the Western Michigan Broncos men's basketball team from 1922 through 1949. He was also president of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) from 1948 to 1949 and the chairman of its rules committee in 1937, 1938, and 1944.
The 2009–10 Michigan State Spartans women's basketball team represented Michigan State University in the 2009–2010 NCAA Division I basketball season. The Spartans were coached by Suzy Merchant and played their home games at the Breslin Center. The Spartans are a member of the Big Ten Conference and advanced to the NCAA tournament, where they lost in the second round to Kentucky.

The 2016–17 Michigan State Spartans women's basketball team represented Michigan State University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Spartans, led by tenth-year head coach Suzy Merchant, played their home games at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan and were members of the Big Ten Conference. They finished the season 21–12, 9–7 in Big Ten play to finish in a tie for sixth place. In the Big Ten tournament, they beat Wisconsin and Michigan before losing in the semifinals to Maryland. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as a No. 8 seed where the lost in the First Round to Arizona State. Head Coach Suzy Merchant took a medical leave of absence of January 17, 2017 after fainting on the sidelines during a game against Illinois. She also missed the following game against Purdue days after fainting.

They finished the season 18–15, 9–9 in MAC play to finish in third place of the West division. They advanced to the semifinals of the MAC women's tournament where they lost to Buffalo.
Kathy Beauregard is the former director of athletics for Western Michigan University. She previously served as an associate athletic director at Western Michigan University from 1989 to 1997, and as women's gymnastics head coach at Western Michigan University from 1980 to 1988. Beauregard graduated from Hope College with a bachelor's degree in 1979, and from Western Michigan University with a master's degree in 1981. Beauregard's hiring of football coach P. J. Fleck in 2013 propelled the Broncos football team to its greatest successes in program history, culminating in a 13–1 record in 2016 and berth in the 2017 Cotton Bowl. Beauregard retired as athletic director at Western Michigan on December 31, 2021.

They finished the season 16–14, 7–10 in Big Ten play to finish in ninth place. They defeated Nebraska in the second round of the Big Ten tournament before losing to Indiana. The Spartans were invited to the National Invitation Tournament, but declined the invitation due in part to the Michigan State shooting on campus.
