Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants,children,adolescents,and young adults. In the United Kingdom,paediatrics covers many of their youth until the age of 18. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends people seek pediatric care through the age of 21,but some pediatric subspecialists continue to care for adults up to 25. Worldwide age limits of pediatrics have been trending upward year after year. A medical doctor who specializes in this area is known as a pediatrician,or paediatrician. The word pediatrics and its cognates mean "healer of children",derived from the two Greek words:παῖς and ἰατρός. Pediatricians work in clinics,research centers,universities,general hospitals and children's hospitals,including those who practice pediatric subspecialties.
Roanoke is an independent city in the U.S. state of Virginia. It is located in Southwest Virginia along the Roanoke River,in the Blue Ridge range of the greater Appalachian Mountains,approximately 50 miles (80 km) north of the Virginia–North Carolina border and 250 miles (400 km) southwest of Washington,D.C.,along Interstate 81. The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) is a private medical school on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg,Virginia,with branch campuses in Spartanburg,South Carolina,Auburn,Alabama,and Monroe,Louisiana. VCOM also recently added Bluefield University to its list of campuses. Founded in 2002,VCOM graduated its first class of 139 students in June 2007.
The University of North Texas Health Science Center is a public academic health science center in Fort Worth,Texas. It is part of the University of North Texas System and was founded in 1966 as the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine,with its first cohort admitted in 1970. UNT Health Science Center consists of six schools with a total enrollment of 2,329 students (2020–21).
Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH) is a pediatric hospital with a Level I trauma center in Little Rock,Arkansas. It is among the largest in the United States,serving infants,children,teens,and young adults from birth to age 21. ACH is affiliated with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and serves as a teaching hospital with the UAMS College of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics. ACH staff consists of more than 505 physicians,200 residents,and 4,400 support staff. The hospital includes 336 licensed beds,and offers three intensive care units. The campus spans 36 city blocks and has a floor space of over 1,200,000 square feet (110,000 m2).

Carilion Clinic is a Roanoke,Virginia-based non-profit integrated health care organization. Carilion owns and operates seven hospitals in the western part of Virginia as well as Radford University Carilion and a joint venture medical school and research institute with Virginia Tech. The system consists of hospitals,primary and specialty physician practices,pharmacies,health clubs and other complementary services. Carilion has more than 13,200 employees with 737 physicians covering more than 70 specialties at 225 practice sites,making it the largest employer in the Roanoke Valley.
UW Health University Hospital is a 614-bed academic regional referral center with 127 outpatient clinics,located on the western edge of the University of Wisconsin–Madison's campus in Madison,Wisconsin. It is an American College of Surgeons designated Level I adult and pediatric trauma center,one of only two in Wisconsin.
The Virginia Tech Foundation (VTF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit nonstock corporation established in 1948 to receive,manage,and disburse private gifts in support of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University programs. The purpose of the foundation is to manage private funds given for the support of the university,and to foster and promote the growth,progress and general welfare of the university. The Virginia Tech Foundation is governed by a 35-member Board of Directors and 4 ex-officio positions:the President of Virginia Tech,the Rector of the Board of Visitors,the President of the VT Alumni Association,and the President of the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund.
Breastfeeding,or nursing,is the process by which human breast milk is fed to a child. Breast milk may be from the breast,or may be pumped and fed to the infant. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that breastfeeding begin within the first hour of a baby's life and continue as often and as much as the baby wants. Health organizations,including the WHO,recommend breastfeeding exclusively for six months. This means that no other foods or drinks,other than vitamin D,are typically given. WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life,followed by continued breastfeeding with appropriate complementary foods for up to 2 years and beyond. Of the 135 million babies born every year,only 42% are breastfed within the first hour of life,only 38% of mothers practice exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months,and 58% of mothers continue breastfeeding up to the age of two years and beyond.
The College of Science at Virginia Tech contains academic programs in eight departments:biology,chemistry,economics,geosciences,mathematics,physics,psychology,and statistics,as well as programs in the School of Neuroscience,the Academy of Integrated Science,and founded in 2020,an Academy of Data Science. For the 2018-209 academic year,the College of Science consisted of 419 faculty members,and 4,305 students,and 600 graduate students The college was established in July 2003 after university restructuring split the College of Arts and Sciences,established in 1963,into two distinct colleges. Lay Nam Chang served as founding dean of the College of Science from 2003 until 2016. In 2016,Sally C. Morton was named dean of the College of Science. Morton served in that role until January 2021,when she departed for Arizona State University and Ronald D. Fricker—senior associate dean and professor in the Department of Statistics—was named interim dean of the College. In February 2022,Kevin T. Pitts was named the named the third official dean of the College of Science.

She held administrative roles at Binghamton University and Ohio University,before becoming chancellor of Indiana University Bloomington.
The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine is a public medical school of Virginia Tech and located in Roanoke,Virginia. The medical school is associated with the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute. Formed as a public–private partnership with the Carilion Clinic,the medical school grants the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree to its graduates. Initially a private institution from 2008-2018,the medical school became an official college of Virginia Tech in 2018.
Naomi Amir was an American-Israeli pediatric neurologist. After earning her M.D. at New York University School of Medicine in 1952,she undertook her residency at Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center in Jerusalem the following year. Choosing to specialize in the field of pediatric neurology,which at the time was new to Israel,she established the first pediatric neurology clinic in Israel in 1968 at Bikur Holim Hospital. She later expanded this clinic into a full-service diagnostic,evaluation,and intervention center. In 1990 she and her team moved to Shaare Zedek Medical Center. She is credited as "the founder of modern child neurology in Israel".

Diane Louise Damiano is an American biomedical scientist and physical therapist specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation approaches in children with cerebral palsy. She is chief of the functional and applied biomechanics section at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center. Damiano has served as president of the Clinical Gait and Movement Analysis Society and the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine.
