The Sri Lanka men's national cricket team,nicknamed The Lions,represents Sri Lanka in men's international cricket. It was a Full Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) with Test,One-Day International (ODI) and T20 International (T20I) status until it was suspended by ICC on 10 November 2023. The suspension was lifted on 21 November 2023. The team first played international cricket in 1926–27 and became an associate member of the ICC in 1965. They were awarded the Test status in 1981,which made Sri Lanka the eighth Test cricket-playing nation. The team is administered by Sri Lanka Cricket.
Kumar Chokshanada Sangakkara born 27 October 1977 is a Sri Lankan former professional cricketer who represented Sri Lanka in 134 Test matches from 2000 to 2015,including fifteen as captain. In first-class cricket,he played for Nondescripts Cricket Club from 1997–98 to 2013–14 and for Surrey County Cricket Club from 2015 to 2017. He also played for numerous franchise teams. He was also a key member of the team that won the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 and was part of the team that made the finals of 2011 Cricket World Cup,2009 ICC World Twenty20 and 2012 ICC World Twenty20. An occasional bowler who can deliver swinging match-winning spells,Mathews and Lasith Malinga hold the record for the highest ninth wicket partnership in ODI cricket. In July 2022,Mathews played in his 100th Test match for Sri Lanka. As captain,Mathews led his national team to be the winners of the 2014 Asia Cup. On 7 November 2023,Mathews became the first player in the history of international cricket to be declared timed out without facing a delivery,as it happened during a group stage match between Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh at the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India.
Balapuwaduge Manukulasuriya Amith Jeevan Mendis is a former Sri Lankan professional cricketer,who played limited over internationals. An all-rounder who bowls leg spin,Mendis has represented Sri Lanka in the 2012 World Twenty20 and 2015 World Cup. Domestically,he plays for Tamil Union in Sri Lanka,and he has also played for Derbyshire in England during 2017. Mendis announced his retirement from international cricket on 28 December 2021 and migrated to Australia.
Narangoda Liyanaarachchige Thisara Chirantha Perera,popularly as Thisara Perera,is a former Sri Lankan international cricketer who played all formats for the national team. He also captained the team in limited-overs formats. Domestically he plays for Sri Lanka Army Sports Club in the Premier Trophy and Premier Limited-Overs Tournament,and the Jaffna Stallions in the Lanka Premier League. Perera has played franchise T20 cricket all around the world for numerous leagues. Primarily a bowling all-rounder,he is an aggressive left-handed batsman who can hit big sixes in death overs and is a useful right-arm medium-fast bowler.
Pramod Bhanuka Bandara Rajapaksa,,popularly known as Bhanuka Rajapaksa,is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer,who plays limited over internationals for the national team. He is a left-handed batsman who bowls right-arm medium. He was born in Colombo. Despite a prolific domestic career,Rajapaksa only made his international debut when he was called up for the T20I series against Pakistan in 2019,ten years after his first-class debut.
The Australian cricket team toured Sri Lanka from 6 August to 20 September 2011. The tour consisted of two Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is),five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Tests played for Warne–Muralitharan Trophy. Four uncapped players had been named in the Australian Test squad;Shaun Marsh,Trent Copeland,James Pattinson and Nathan Lyon. Balapuwaduge Kusal Gimhan Mendis,popularly known as Kusal Mendis is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays as a top-order batter in all forms of the game. He only played sixteen first-class matches before playing for the national side. In November 2017,he was named the One Day International (ODI) batsman of the year for the 2016–17 season at Sri Lanka Cricket's annual awards.
Wanigamuni Ramesh Tarinda Mendis is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for the Sri Lanka cricket team. He was part of Sri Lanka's squad for the 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in January 2021.
Pinnaduwage Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva,better known as Wanindu Hasaranga,is an international cricketer who plays for the Sri Lanka cricket team in white ball cricket as a bowling All rounder. He is a Right-arm leg spinner. Hasaranga made his international debut for Sri Lanka in July 2017. His elder brother,Chaturanga de Silva,has also represented the national team. Pasqual Handi Kamindu Dilanka Mendis,popularly as Kamindu Mendis,is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for the national team,and for Colombo Cricket Club in domestic cricket. He is an ambidextrous bowler and has bowled both right and left-arm deliveries during the same over. He made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in October 2018.
Weerahandige Inol Avishka Fernando,commonly as Avishka Fernando,is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer,who currently plays limited over internationals for Sri Lanka national team.
