The 1998 Winter Paralympics, the seventh Paralympic Winter Games, were held alongside the Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan from 5 to 14 March 1998. They were the first Paralympic Winter Games to be held outside Europe. 571 athletes competed in Nagano; as 2022 it remains the highest number of athletes competing at any Winter Paralympics.
The 2nd IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships was held between March 20, 2000 and March 25, 2000 at the E Center in West Valley City, Utah, United States.The same place where would host the same sport two years later as the first test event for the Paralympic Winter Games in 2002. Participating countries: Canada, Estonia, Japan, Norway, Sweden and United States.

Billy Bridges is a Canadian ice sledge hockey and wheelchair basketball player. Born in Summerside, he has spina bifida. On July 1, 2011, Bridges married former Olympic women's ice hockey player Sami Jo Small. He competed at the 2022 Winter Paralympics, in Para ice hockey winning a silver medal.

Jang was a member of South Korea's bronze medal winning team in para ice hockey at the 2018 Winter Paralympics.
Miki Matsue Matheson (松江美季) is a three time Paralympic gold medalist in Ice sledge speed racing at the Winter Paralympics. A car accident led to her disability. Currently she lives in Canada with her husband, former Paralympic ice sledge hockey player Shawn Matheson.

Corbyn Smith is a Canadian ice sledge hockey player who was on the Canadian team that earned a silver medal in para ice hockey at the 2018 Winter Paralympics. As a child he had a neuroblastoma, which affected his abdomen and spine.
