Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh (born 19 November 1971) [3] is a Bangladeshi politician and former mayor of South Dhaka. He previously served as a member of the Jatiya Sangsad for Dhaka-10 and Dhaka-12 from the Bangladesh Awami League. [4]
Taposh was born on 19 November 1971 to Awami League leader Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani and Arzu Moni. [5] His parents were both assassinated on 15 August 1975 in a military coup that also killed Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other members of his family. Taposh and his elder brother Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash survived. [6]
Taposh was elected to the Jatiya Sangsad in the 2008 Bangladeshi general election from the Dhaka-12 constituency. [7]
Taposh's vehicle was subjected to a bomb attack on 21 October 2009. The incident resulted in property damage and injuries to thirteen individuals. [8]
In the 2014 general election, he was elected unopposed to represent the Dhaka-10 constituency. [9]
In 2015, his rally was the target of a bomb attack. [10]
In 2018 election, he was elected as member of parliament for a third consecutive time.
In 2020, he won the Dhaka mayoral election and became the mayor of Dhaka South. He got the status of full minister from 8 August 2022 along with DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam.[ citation needed ]
On 19 August 2024, he was removed from the mayors position by the government. [11]
Taposh called for the trial of Mahfuz Anam for supporting the military backed caretaker government. [12] He has criticized the Rapid Action Battalion over extra judicial killings. [13]
The Jatiya Sangsad, often simply referred to as Sangsad and also known as the House of the Nation, is the supreme legislative body of Bangladesh. The current parliament of Bangladesh contains 350 seats, including 50 seats reserved exclusively for women. Elected occupants are called members of Parliament, or MPs. The 12th national parliamentary election was held on 7 January 2024. Elections to the body are held every five years, unless a parliament is dissolved earlier by the President of Bangladesh. On 6 August 2024, President Mohammed Shahabuddin dissolved parliament after the resignation of Sheikh Hasina and ordered to form a interim government.
Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni was a Bangladeshi politician. He was one of the nephews of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh. He was the founder of Mujib Bahini Bangladesh Liberation Force-BLF one of the major guerrilla forces of the Bangladesh Liberation War and also the founder of Bangladesh Awami Jubo League, the youth wing of Bangladesh Awami League.

He was claimed as a corrupt person, In 1973, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman institutionalized cronyism in Bangladesh's civil service. His political secretary, Tofael Ahmed, appointed under-qualified individuals—often relatives and friends of Awami League leaders—to key positions. This group, dubbed the "Tofael Service," largely bypassed standard exams and was predominantly from Mujib's and Tofael's home districts. As a result, the civil service remained filled with under-qualified personnel for over thirty years
Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim is a Bangladeshi politician who was a 8-term Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Gopalganj-2 constituency during 1986–2024. He is a member of the standing committee of Bangladesh Awami League party. He also served as the minister of Health and Family Welfare during 1999–2001.
