The Emir of the State of Qatar is the monarch and head of state of Qatar, as well as the commander-in-chief of the Qatar Armed Forces and guarantor of the Constitution. It is the most powerful position in the country, and has a prominent role in foreign relations.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai. Since his accession in 2006, after the death of his brother Sheikh Maktoum, he has undertaken reforms in the UAE's government, starting with the UAE Federal Government Strategy in April 2007. In 2010 he launched the UAE vision 2021 with the aim of making the UAE 'one of the best countries in the world' by 2021.

Al-Obaidi is one of the Arab tribes in Iraq settled around Al Jazira, Mesopotamia. It is an ancient, powerful and noble tribe which hails from the tribe of Zubaid and should not be confused with the Obadiah tribe of Saudi Arabia or the Obaidat tribe of Libya. Zubaid itself is an offshoot of the ancient Yemenite tribe Madh'hij. The tribe migrated from Najd in Saudi Arabia circa 1750s The tribe was a very influential one which faced some rivalry from the House of Saud during the establishment of the first Saudi State. The Al-Obaidis descend from a branch of Zubaid who became Sultans over part of Najd prior to their defeat by Al-Saud and their banishment to Iraq. The migration of this branch of the family was led by the final Zubaidi Sultan in Najd: Sultan Jabr bin Maktoum Al Zubaidi. His eldest son Obaid, is the founder of the Al-Obaidi family, and subsequent tribe. In this sense the Al-Obaidi have three ancestral homelands, the first is Zabid in Yemen and it is the original homeland, it is where all of Zubaid hails from. The second is Najd in modern day Saudi Arabia and it is where Amru bin Ma'adi Yakrib the ancestor of the Obaidi family and the leader of Zubaid migrated to after joining the Muslim Prophet Muhammad as one of his Sahabah (companions). Amru initially settled in Medina, Hejaz where Muhammad was settled. Soon after his death, one of his sons migrated to Najd and Al-Obaid descend from this son. The third and final homeland is in Al Jazira, Mesopotamia where the final migration took place from Najd. The current power-base of the Al-Obaidi family is centered around the city of Mosul in Iraq.

The Al Maktoum family is the ruling royal family of Dubai, and one of the six ruling families of the United Arab Emirates. The family is a branch of the Bani Yas clan. The Al Maktoum family descends from the Al Bu Falasah section of the Bani Yas, a tribal federation that was the dominant power throughout most of what is now the United Arab Emirates.
Abdullah bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, also known as Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani or Sheikh Abdullah bin Qassim Al Thani, was the Emir of Qatar. He was born in 1880 in Doha, the capital city and state of Qatar. He then abdicated in favour of his heir apparent and second son, Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani, in 1940. Sheikh Hamad died eight years later and Sheikh Abdullah assumed office once again until 1949, when he stepped down from office in favour for his eldest son, Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al Thani. Oil was also discovered for the first time during his rule.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Thani, also known as Mohammed bin Thani bin Mohammed Al Thamir, was the first Hakim (ruler) of the whole Qatari Peninsula, following his predecessor, his father, tribal leader Sheikh Thani bin Mohammed Al Thamir. He is known for being the father of Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, the founder of Qatar and who fended off the Ottoman army in the late 19th century.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, is the son of Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani. Sheikh Mohammed had a total of 18 siblings, with him being the seventh of his father's sons.
Sheikh Ahmad bin Ali bin Abdullah bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani,, also known as Sheikh Ahmad bin Ali Al Thani for short, was the Emir of Qatar who ruled from 1960 to 1972. Qatar's financial status witnessed significant improvements during his reign as a result of the enrichment and discovery of several new oil fields. Qatar also gained its independence as a sovereign state in September 1971 under his rule. He was deposed in February 1972 by his cousin, Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani.
Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani is a close member of Royal House of Thani. He is the fifth son of former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and the third child of the Emir with his second wife, Sheikha Moza bint Nasser Al Missned.
Al Koot Fort most commonly known as the Doha Fort, is a historical military fortress located in the heart of Doha, Qatar's capital city. It was built in 1927 by Sheikh Abdulla bin Qassim Al Thani, better known as Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani, who ruled Qatar from 1913 until 1949, after Sheikh Mohammed bin Jassim Al Thani, Sheikh Abdullah's brother, abdicated in favor of him. The fort was later converted into a museum.
