Wells was born in Auckland. [3] She started playing netball in the 1960s. From 1992 to 2004, she was the team manager for the Silver Ferns, including for the 2003 World Netball Championships, which the Silver Ferns won. In 2010, Wells managed the LG Mystics in the ANZ Championship. In 2011 she was appointed president of Netball New Zealand for a three-year term. [1]
In the 2004 Queen's Birthday Honours, Wells was appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to netball. [4]
Wells was awarded the Alwyn Moon Memorial Trophy by the Auckland Amateur Sports Association in 1995 for her services and administration to sport. In 2006 she became a life member of Netball New Zealand.
Wells is married to Sir John Wells, also a sports administrator. Their son Jeremy Wells is a television broadcaster. [5]

Julie Seymour is a New Zealand netball coach, former international netball player and former representative middle distance runner. Seymour played for the New Zealand national netball team, the Silver Ferns, in 92 test matches spanning 16 years. During her international career she has competed at three Netball World Championships and two Commonwealth Games. She also captained the Silver Ferns in 2002 and again during the last two years of her international career. After two years in the ANZ Championship, Seymour announced her retirement from competitive netball in 2009. She subsequently took on a coaching role at the Canterbury Tactix as assistant coach.

Linda Tuumuliga Vagana is an international netball coach and former representative player from New Zealand. She was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2003 Queen's Birthday Honours, for services to netball. Domestically, she played for the Northern Force in the National Bank Cup from 1998 to 2005.
Margaret Mary Anne Foster is a New Zealand netball coach and former Silver Ferns player. Foster played 14 international matches from 1992 to 1997. She played domestic netball in the National Bank Cup for the Canterbury Flames, playing in 1998, 1999 and 2001. She also played for Canterbury for over ten years, and played one season for Wellington.
Belinda Jane Charteris is a New Zealand former international netball representative, who played in the Silver Ferns team that won a silver medal at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur. Dame Mabel June Hinekahukura Mariu, known by most as "Aunty June", is a New Zealand Māori community leader, teacher, former sportswoman and served as a Justice of the Peace for many years before retiring. June is of Te Whānau-ā-Apanui, Ngāti Porou and Pākehā descent. Dame June has represented Aotearoa / New Zealand in two sporting codes. Dame June is a Netball stalwart, becoming the first winning captain and the first Māori captain of the National Side in 1960. Dame June also represented Aotearoa in indoor basketball. Dame June has also represented in softball regionally for Auckland and North Island teams. Dame June was inducted into the Māori Sports Awards Hall of Fame in February 2014 joining many other notable Māori sports people like Dame Ruia Morrison. Between 1987 and 1990, she served as national president of the Māori Women's Welfare League. June was appointed a member of the Treaty of Waitangi Fisheries Commission in 2000 by the late Honourable Parekura Horomia.

Julie Fitzgerald is a veteran Australian netball coach. Between 1997 and 2007, Fitzgerald served as head coach of Sydney Swifts in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy league. She guided Swifts to premierships in 2001, 2004, 2006 and 2007. Between 2008 and 2011, she served as head coach of New South Wales Swifts in the ANZ Championship. In 2008, she guided Swifts to the inaugural ANZ Championship title. Between 2014 and 2016, she guided Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic to the Finals Series every year in the ANZ Championship. Since 2017, Fitzgerald has served as head coach of Giants Netball in Suncorp Super Netball, guiding them to two grand finals and two minor championships. In 2020, Fitzgerald was made a Member of the Order of Australia.

Evelyn Anne Taylor is a former New Zealand netball administrator, coach and umpire. From 1978 to 1987 she was president of Netball New Zealand and between 1989 and 1999 she was vice-president and president of the International Netball Federation.
