The Jatiya Party is a centre-right,conservative,nationalist political party in Bangladesh and is currently the main opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad,against the Awami League. The current chairman of the party is Ghulam Muhammed Quader. On 3 January 2019,the party announced its decision to join the Bangladesh Awami League-led Grand Alliance after having been in opposition for the previous parliamentary term. However,the party backtracked the next day and announced that it intended to remain part of the opposition. Currently,it holds Rangpur out of Bangladesh's 12 city corporations. The current chairperson of the party is Ghulam Muhammed Quader MP.
Abu Taher was a Bengali military serviceman,who served in the Pakistan Army,and later in BDF. He crossed into India around early August and reported to the Indian authorities. After a week screening at Dehradun,India,Taher reported to Kolkata,Bangladesh Provincial government at 8 Theatre Rd. He was ordered to report to Sector 11 of Mukti Bahini under command of Major Ziaur Rahman,he became the sector commander after him. He served in BDF from end of August to 2 November 1971. He was awarded the medal Bir Uttom for his gallantry in the liberation war. He was released from military service by Indian military medical board in Pune,India after his leg was amputated. After independence,he was inducted into the Bangladesh Army for administrative retirement with legacy rank of lieutenant colonel. After settling in with family,the government of Bangladesh appointed him with employment at Kumilla. Later Taher turned into a political activist and leader of the left-wing Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal.
The Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal is a political party in Bangladesh. The party was founded by Serajul Alam Khan. The party was very dominant during 1972–1975 Bangladesh insurgency.
A. S. M. Abdur Rab is a Bangladeshi politician. He is the founder secretary general of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal. In 1985,Rab and his followers left the party and formed a new party Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD,known as JSD (Rab). The Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Bengali:জাতীয়সমাজতান্ত্রিকদল,'National Socialist Party') is a political party in Bangladesh. It was formed in 2002,through a split from the original Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal. The party is sometimes referred to as JSD (Rab) (after prominent party leader ASM Abdur Rab),to differentiate it from the mother party led by Hasanul Haq Inu. The Election Commission of Bangladesh calls the party Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD and the Inu-led party Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-Jasad.
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 30 December 2018 to elect 300 directly-elected members of the Jatiya Sangsad. The result was another landslide victory for the Awami League-led Grand Alliance led by Sheikh Hasina. The elections were marred by violence,and were widely considered by opposition politicians and the international community to be rigged.

The party joined the Awami League-led 14-Party Alliance. Ahead of the 2018 Bangladeshi general election,the Awami League allowed the party to field its candidate Mayeen Uddin Khan Badal to contest the Chittagong-8 seat on their election symbol. In 2022,the party left the 14-Party Alliance.
