Shiv Chhatrapati Award (also known as Shiv Chhatrapati State Sports Award) is the highest prestigious sports award honoured annually to the players of Maharashtra by the Government of Maharashtra in India . [1]

Contents

The Government of Maharashtra instituted in 1969–70 a scheme for giving the Shiv Chhatrapati State Awards to sportsmen and women. The State Government has approved 24 games for men and 12 for women for this purpose. [2]

Shivaji Park, officially Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park, is a public park situated in Dadar, Mumbai. It is the largest park in the island city. Similar but bigger in size to Azad Maidan and August Kranti Maidan, it is of historical and cultural value because of the political and social gatherings it has witnessed, both in pre- and post-independence Mumbai. The West Zone cricket team is a first-class cricket team that represents western India in the Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy. It is a composite team of players from five first-class Indian teams from western India competing in the Ranji Trophy: Baroda, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Mumbai and Saurashtra. West Zone has the best track record of all the zones in the Duleep Trophy, as they have won the Trophy 19 times. This included four consecutive titles from 1961–1962 through to the 1964–65 season, although the third of these were shared with South Zone. Playing against South Zone at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in the 2009-10 Duleep Trophy final, West Zone set a new first-class record for the highest fourth innings total to win a match, scoring 541/7.

Ajinkya Rahane is an Indian cricketer and former captain and former vice-captain of the Indian team in Test cricket, who has played for Indian cricket team in all formats as a batsman. He currently captains Mumbai in Ranji trophy and plays for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL and Leicestershire in County Championship. Rahane plays primarily as a middle-order batsman in the Test format and as a top-order batsman in white-ball forms of the game. As a captain of the national team, India has only lost one match under his captaincy.

Rucha Pujari is an Indian chess player. She is currently a Woman International Master and was previously awarded the title of Woman FIDE Master in 2006.

The Indian cricket team toured Australia from 24 November 2014 to 10 January 2015. The tour consisted of two tour matches and four Test matches. The first Test was originally scheduled on 4 December in Brisbane, but it was postponed because of the death of Phillip Hughes. Instead, Adelaide hosted the first Test from 9 December and the Brisbane hosted the second Test from 17 December. Following the draw in the third Test, Indian captain MS Dhoni announced his retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect. After the draw in the final Test in Sydney, Australia won the series 2–0. Following the Test matches, Australia and India participated in the Carlton Mid Triangular Series with the England cricket team.

Prathamesh Mokal is an Indian chess player. He is an International Master as well as FIDE Trainer, and won the Shiv Chhatrapati Award (2005). He is also a black belt in karate and koryū. He received the Shiv-Chhatrapati Award from Maharashtra government in 2004 for his achievements in Chess.

The South African cricket team toured India from 29 September to 7 December 2015. The tour consisted of four Test matches, five One Day International (ODI) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. This was the first time a four-match Test series between the two nations has been played in India and the first time that South Africa played a T20I against India in India. India won the Test series while South Africa won both the ODI and T20I series.

Rohit Rajendra Havaldar is an Indian swimmer. Rohit Havaldar has achieved many swimming records and has won many medals both at the nationals and state competitions. He competed in Telstra grand prix Olympic trials in July. He created history in 2010 when he won a medal for India in swimming at the South Asian games 2010.

Vinda Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar is a lifetime achievement award conferred annually by the Department of Marathi Language, Government of Maharashtra.It is given to a writer who has made a lasting and valuable contribution to Marathi literature.originally consisted of a citation and a cash award of Rupees Five Lakh. It is named in honour of Marathi poet Govind Vinayak Karandikar.

The India A cricket team toured New Zealand in November - December 2018 to play 3 first-class matches and 3 List-A matches against the New Zealand A cricket team. BCCI included Rohit Sharma, Murali Vijay and Ajinkya Rahane for India's first four-dayer match as a preparation for senior team's tour to Australia.

The India cricket team toured Australia from November 2020 to January 2021 to play four Tests, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The Test series formed part of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship, and the ODI series formed part of the inaugural ICC Cricket World Cup Super League.

Sukant Kadam is an Indian professional para-badminton player from Maharashtra. He qualified to represent India at the 2024 Summer Paralympics at Paris. He completes in men's singles SL4 category.

Sarika Kale is an Indian kho kho player from Maharashtra. She became the captain of the Maharashtra women's state kho kho team in 2010, leading the team to three national championships. Selected for the India women's national kho kho team in 2015, she was named captain of the team before the 2016 South Asian Games. She led the team to victory in the South Asian Games and in the Third Asian Kho-Kho Championship, where she received the match winner award in the final against Bangladesh.

Akshay Prashant Ganpule is an Indian Kho Kho player who currently plays for the Rajasthan Warriors in the Ultimate Kho Kho.
