The National Human Rights Commission of India is a statutory body constituted on 12 October 1993 under the Protection of Human Rights Ordinance of 28 September 1993. It was given a statutory basis by the Protection of Human Rights Act,1993 (PHRA). The NHRC is responsible for the protection and promotion of human rights,defined by the act as "Rights Relating To Life,liberty,equality and dignity of the individual guaranteed by the constitution or embodied in the international covenants and enforceable by courts in India".

Nanje Gowda Venkatachala was a judge of the Supreme court of India and Lokayukta of state of Karnataka. He was popular for his approach of taking action in each and every case he caught,many times red-handed by personally leading the raid while he was serving as Lokayukta. He became the first of the four Lokayuktas to take the oath of office and secrecy in Kannada language with the Governor also administering the oath in Kannada. He is survived by his wife Anasuya Chala and children M.V. Seshachala,M.V. Vedachala,Aruna Ramesh and Arjuna Chala respectively.
Konakuppakatil Gopinathan Balakrishnan is an Indian judge who served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India and later the chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission of India. He was the first judge from Kerala to become the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. His tenure lasting more than three years has been one of the longest in the Supreme Court of India. While being Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court,he was appointed as the acting governor of Gujarat from 16 January 1999 to 18 March 1999. In 2010,he was conferred with an honorary doctorate by Cochin University of Science and Technology.

A Lokpal is an anti-corruption authority or body of ombudsman who represents the public interest in the Republic of India. The current Chairperson of Lokpal is Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar. The Lokpal has jurisdiction over central government to inquire into allegations of corruption against its public functionaries and for matters connected to corruption. The Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act was passed in 2013 with amendments in parliament,following the Jan Lokpal movement led by Anna Hazare in 2010. The Lokpal is responsible for enquiring into corruption charges at the national level while the Lokayukta performs the same function at the state level. The age of Lokpal on the date of assuming office as the chairperson or a member should not be less than 45 years.
The Lokayukta is the Indian Parliamentary Ombudsman,executed into power,through and for,each of the State Governments of India. It is brought into effect in a state after passing the Lokayukta Act in the respective state legislature,and a person of reputable background is nominated for the post. The post was created to quickly address the working of the government or its administration. Once appointed,Lokayukta cannot be dismissed or transferred by the government,and can only be removed by passing an impeachment motion by the state assembly.

Karnataka Lokayukta is the ombudsman institution of the Indian state of Karnataka. It was established in 1984 to investigate and report on corruption in the Government of Karnataka and to redress public grievances related to state government employees. This Lokayukta that was once considered the most powerful such institution in the state. However,it was stripped of its investigative powers before transferring them to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Karnataka Police directly under the Chief Minister of Karnataka in 2016. The High Court of Karnataka dissolved ACB and restored all the ongoing cases to the Karnataka Lokayukta in 2022.
