Shōji Yasui (安井 昌二, Yasui Shōji, 16 August 1928 – 3 March 2014) was a Japanese actor. He was best known for playing the central role of Private Mizushima in Kon Ichikawa's The Burmese Harp .
Born in Tokyo, Yasui first joined a troupe led by Kazuo Hasegawa. [1] He entered the Nikkatsu studio in 1954 and made his debut in a film scripted by Yasujirō Ozu. [1] After starring in The Burmese Harp , he starred with his own family in the television show Chako-chan. [1] He joined the Gekidan Shinpa troupe and become a main actor in their stage productions. [1]

The Burmese Harp is a 1956 Japanese drama film directed by Kon Ichikawa. Based on a children's novel of the same name written by Michio Takeyama, it tells the story of Japanese soldiers who fought in the Burma Campaign during World War II. A member of the group goes missing after the war, and the soldiers hope to uncover whether their friend survived, and if he is the same person as a Buddhist monk they see playing a harp. The film was among the first to show the losses of the war from a Japanese soldier's perspective.
Shibukawa Shunkai or Shibukawa Harumi born as Yasui Santetsu, later called Motoi Santetsu, was a Japanese scholar, go player and the first official astronomer appointed of the Edo period. He revised the Chinese lunisolar calendar at the shogunate request, drawing up the Jōkyō calendar which was issued in 1684 during the Jōkyō era. In 1702, he changed his name to Shibukawa Sukezaemon Shunkai and retired by 1711. As a go player, he was affiliated with the Yasui house, calling himself initially Yasui Santetsu II. He is mentioned as a Tengen player in Yamashita Keigo 's book: Challenging Tengen.
