Sidiku Buari is a Ghanaian musician and former athlete. [1] Buari was born in Accra. His early education was at the Government Boys School, Row Road, and the African College, both in Accra. [2]

Athletics

He was a silver medallist at the All-Africa Games held in Dakar, Senegal, in 1963 in the 400 metres race. During the athletics at the 1965 All-Africa Games held in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo, he was a bronze medallist on the 4 x 400 metres relay Ghana team. [3]

United States

He moved to the United States in 1966. He studied music at the New York School of Music and then interior decoration at the La Sale University in Chicago, Illinois. He played non-professional baseball while in the United States. [3] [4]

Music career

He returned to Ghana in 1985. He released the album Africa Responds to the World, which grossed 250,000 cedis. This won him an Entertainers Critics and Reviewers Association of Ghana (ECRAG) award. He has since released 16 albums in Ghana. He has been a past president of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) [3] and Vice President of the International Federation of Musicians (FIM). [5]

Family

Sidiku Buari has two notable daughters: Nadia Buari, an actress and Shaida Buari, who was Miss Ghana 2002. He has a son, Malik Buari, who is a footballer. [6]

Highlife Ghanaian musical genre

Highlife is a music genre that started in present-day Ghana in the 19th century, during its history as a colony of the British Empire and through its trade routes in coastal areas. It describes multiple local fusions of African metre and western jazz melodies. It uses the melodic and main rhythmic structures of traditional Akan music, Kpanlogo Music of the Ga people, but is typically played with Western instruments. Nadia Buari is a Ghanaian actress. She received two nominations for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2009.

Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed, called Mohammed Polo and popularly known as the "Dribbling Magician", is a former Ghanaian international football player and arguably the most technically gifted player ever to emerge from Ghana. He was in the Ghana squad that won the 1978 African Cup of Nations held in Ghana. He was a left winger and played for Hearts of Oak in the Ghana premier league.

She was the first woman to represent Ghana at the Olympics. Since then, Alice has participated in the 1964 Olympics held in Tokyo, 1968 in Mexico and the 1972 Olympics held in Munich.

Tinny (musician) Ghanaian rapper

Nii Addo Quaynor, better known by his stage name Tinny, is a Ghanaian Rapper. He was born in Osu, Ghana to Mr. Ricky Tetteh Quaynor and Naa Badu Quaynor. He is the last-born of their six children. At the early age of eight, by singing and rapping at parties and funfairs, he got into the music industry. In 1994, he started performing at Fun-World, an entertainment program which was organized every Sunday at the National Theatre (Accra). He has released five studio albums since his debut.

Michael Owusu Addo known professionally as Sarkodie, is a Ghanaian rapper, songwriter and entrepreneur from Tema. His contributions to the Ghanaian music industry have earned him numerous accolades, including the Vodafone Ghana Music Award for "Artiste of the Decade". He was announced the first winner of BET's Best International Flow artist at the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards. He is also considered one of the major proponents of the Azonto genre and dance and one of the most successful African rappers of all time.

Kojo Antwi, also known as "Mr. Music Man", is a Ghanaian Afro pop, highlife and reggae musical artist. Born Julius Kojo Antwi into a family of 13 siblings, he grew up in Darkuman a suburb of Accra. Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia was a Ghanaian politician, lawyer and the paramount chief of Kperiga in the then Northern region of Ghana. He was chairman of the council of state in the 4th republic from 1993 to 2000.

Diana Hopeson Musical artist

Diana Hopeson is Ghanaian gospel singer and a former president of the Musicians Union of Ghana. In 2021 she was selected by BJ Sam to represent Ghana in the first universal Christmas music project with other global music icons including Hollywood Actor Paul Raci, Bollywood payback singer Jaspinder Narula, Swiss actress Christina Zurbrügg Her contributions to the Ghanaian Art industry won her a National Honors Award, which was presented to her by former president John Agyekum Kufuor in 2007. In March 2021, she was among the Top 30 Most Influential Women in Music by the 3Music Awards Women's Brunch. She was also a GHAMRO board member and also the Chairperson of the Interim Management Board of the Copyright Society of Ghana.

Harmonious Chorale (HC) is an interdenominational choir based in Accra, Ghana. It is adjudged one of Ghana's best groups. It was formerly formed as the Harmonious Quartet in 2005 and established as Harmonious Chorale in 2007.

Shaida Buari now Mrs. Shaida Nubi, born 25 July 1982, is a Ghanaian businesswoman, philanthropist, model, and the title winner of the 2002 Miss Ghana beauty pageant. She went further to represent Ghana in the Miss World Pageant in 2003. As part of her social responsibility project as title winner, she worked with UNICEF, Right To Play on projects relating to sensitisation on social stigma that plagues HIV/AIDS patients, as well as helping to educate parents on the importance of certain vaccinations in helping curb diseases in young children. This exposure let to her forming her Non Profit organization; Helplink Foundation. Shaida in collaboration with certain corporate entities successfully footed the hospital bills of a number of children who needed that assistance.

Joseph Amoah (sprinter) Ghanaian sprinter

Joseph Paul Amoah is a Ghanaian sprinter specializing in the 100 metres and the 200 metres. He competed at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in the 100 metres and 4 × 100 metres relay, and at the 2019 African Games he won a gold medal in the 4 × 100 metres relay. He was also a 100 metres finalist at the 2019 African Games, finishing fourth.

Kwame Gyasi (1929–2012) was a Ghanaian highlife musician. He originated the Sikyi highlife sub-genre which combined electric organ with the known highlife genres.
