Siege

In 1231, Iltutmish laid siege to the Gwalior fort, which was under the command of Malayavarma Deva or Mangal Deva. [2] The siege continued for eleven months, but in the end, Malayavarma surrendered to Iltutmish, and fled away in the night. [3] [4] On 12 December 1232, Gwalior came under Iltutmish rule after the eleven months had passed. [5]

Aftermath

It is said that when Iltutmish entered the fort after capturing it, he killed 700 Hindus who were still present in the fort [6] and many of the women committed jauhar . The fort remained under Muslim rule till Tomara annexation in 1398. [7]
