Stuart Maxwell Whitman was an American actor, known for his lengthy career in film and television. Whitman was born in San Francisco and raised in New York until the age of 12, when his family relocated to Los Angeles. In 1948, Whitman was discharged from the Corps of Engineers in the U.S. Army and started to study acting and appear in plays. From 1951 to 1957, Whitman had a streak working in mostly bit parts in films, including When Worlds Collide (1951), The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), Barbed Wire (1952) and The Man from the Alamo (1952). On television, Whitman guest-starred in series such as Dr. Christian, The Roy Rogers Show, and Death Valley Days, and also had a recurring role on Highway Patrol. Whitman's first lead role was in John H. Auer's Johnny Trouble (1957).

For his contributions to film, the Government of India honoured him with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2001, and the Padma Bhushan in 2005. In 2006, British Academy of Film and Television Arts presented him with a lifetime membership, making him the first Indian to receive the honour.

The film became a "semi-hit" at the box office. The film is based on 1965 American movie Signpost to Murder. which was earlier adapted into a Gujarati drama Dhummas starring Sarita Joshi.

Generally the movies are based on the experiences of modern people who are unexpectedly exposed to ghosts. Some Indian ghost movies, such as the comedy horror film Chandramukhi, have been great hits, dubbed into several languages. They usually draw on traditional Indian literature or folklore, but in some cases are remakes of Western movies, such as Anjaane, based on Alejandro Amenábar's ghost story The Others.

Kabhi Kabhie Ittefaq Sey is an Indian Television Drama series that premiered on 3 January 2022. It was aired on StarPlus and is digitally available on Disney+ Hotstar which stars Yesha Rughani and Manan Joshi. It is a loose Hindi adaptation of Star Jalsha's Khorkuto and went off-air on 20 August 2022. It replaced Zindagi Mere Ghar Aana and was replaced by Rajjo in its timeslot.
