Silaki Island is a heart-shaped island located in Bolinao, Pangasinan, Philippines. [1] This 10-hectare islet has 89 households with 376 population. [2] It is tagged as the "Giant Clam Capital of the Philippines" because of the shallow reef surrounding the island that is home to giant clams locally known as "Taklobo" in an almost 16 hectares of the ocean. Silaki Island's reefs serve as a giant clam nursery and hatchery managed by the Bolinao Marine Laboratory (BML) of the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute (UPMSI). [3]

Tourism

The Legacy of the Sea: A Silaki Island Community-Based Tourism Project

On April 15, 2024, third placer, Bolinao's Mayor Alfonso D. Celeste and Vice Mayor Richard C. Celeste received the P20 million award from the Department of Tourism's Tourism Champions Challenge, for the development of "The Legacy of the Sea: A Silaki Island Community-Based Tourism Project." [4] In partnership with Marine Science Institute, Bolinao tourism officer Mary de Guzman-Suarez explained the project provides “fishing village experience, giant clams tour, fossilized giant clams and artifacts mini-museum and birdwatching trail in the island.” The tourist attraction respects biodiversity and nature conservation while promoting Bolinao as the “Giant Clam Capital of the Philippines”. [5]

The Tubbataha Natural Park, also known as the Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, is a protected area of the Philippines located in the middle of the Sulu Sea. The marine and bird sanctuary consists of two huge atolls and the smaller Jessie Beazley Reef covering a total area of 97,030 hectares. It is located 150 kilometres (93 mi) southeast of Puerto Princesa, the capital of Palawan. Santiago Island is an island located off the northeast coast of Bolinao, Pangasinan, Philippines. It is composed of six barangays namely Binabalian, Goyoden, Lucero, Pilar, Salud, and Victory, all within the municipality of Bolinao. Located in this island is the Giant Clam Ocean Nursery and Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). It is ideal for various aquatic activities like scuba-diving, snorkeling, and boating.

Saint James the Great Parish Church, commonly known as Bolinao Church, is a Spanish colonial Roman Catholic church located at Brgy. Germinal in Bolinao, Pangasinan, Philippines. It is under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Alaminos. The church was made out of black coral stones. The church underwent series of natural and man-made calamities, such as the 1788 earthquake, 1819 fire incident, and Typhoon Emong in 2009. The said church was the Second largest church in bolinao, the First is the The Jesus Church - Bolinao that was started in March 1, 1969.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Casa Real (Lingayen)</span>

Casa Real is one of the oldest public buildings and served as the provincial seat of government of Lingayen, Pangasinan, in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial period. It was where the alcalde mayor held office as the provincial governor and the judge of the Court of First Instance. It was declared a National Landmark by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines and noted it as "an outstanding and unique example of civil architecture from the Spanish and American colonial periods". Local offices that were housed by the building abandoned it when Typhoon "Cosme" ripped off its roof in 2008. Since 2023, the building houses the Banaan Pangasinan Provincial Museum.

Murcielagos Island locally known as Pulo Baliudyong is a small low-lying island in the Sulu Sea off the coast of Zamboanga del Norte in the southern Philippine island of Mindanao. It measures over 500 metres (1,600 ft) across at its widest point and is situated on an oval reef about 1.6 kilometres (0.99 mi) in length. situated in 4.8 kilometres (3.0 mi) north of Quipit Point on the west side of Patauag Bay in the Zamboanga municipality of Labason. It is known for its white coral-sand beaches and rich marine resources. To its west lies an islet called Bayangan Island. The two islands are collectively known as Murcielagos Islands and are administratively part of the Labason poblacion of Antonino.
