More than 130 visually impaired judokas, including some from the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Spain and Sweden, competed in the Rio 2016 games, making it the biggest yet staged.

Viktoriya Potapova is a Russian Paralympic judoka. She represented Russia at the Summer Paralympics in 2004, 2008 and 2012. She won a bronze medal on each occasion: in the women's 48 kg event in 2004, in the women's 48 kg event in 2008 and in the women's 48 kg event in 2012. Madina Kazakova is a Russian Paralympic judoka. In 2004, she won the gold medal in the women's 63 kg event at the 2004 Summer Paralympics held in Athens, Greece. In the final, she defeated Silke Huettler of Germany. In 2008, she won one of the bronze medals in the same event at the 2008 Summer Paralympics held in Beijing, China.
Nicolina Pernheim Goodrich is a blind Swedish Paralympic judoka who competes in international level events. She is a triple European champion in the women's middleweight category and has participated at the Summer Paralympics three times. She is highly regarded as one of Sweden's best female judoka.
