Silko Günzel (born 2 June 1971) [3] is a retired German freestyle swimmer who specialized in short course (25 m pool) sprint swimming disciplines, in which he won eight European medals between 1991 and 1994. [4]
He originates from East Germany. [1] After retiring from swimming in 1996 he worked as a software developer and doctor in physiotherapy and health care related fields. [5] Between 2000 and 2010, he founded three medical consulting companies: Airnergy AG, Medical Biophysics GmbH and Günzel Medical Consulting & Development UG. [6] [7]
Roswitha Krause is a retired German freestyle swimmer and team handball player. She is the first woman to win Summer Olympic medals in two different sports. Krause won a silver medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico in the 4×100 m freestyle relay.
Klaus Katzur was a German swimmer who competed in the 1964, 1968, and 1972 Summer Olympics. In 1972, he won a silver medal in the 4 × 100 metre medley relay and finished eighth in the 200 metre breaststroke. Two years earlier, he won two gold medals in these events at the 1970 European Aquatics Championships. Between 1963 and 1972, he won 13 national titles in breaststroke, freestyle, and medley events.
Udo Poser is a German former swimmer. He competed at the 1968 and 1972 Summer Olympics and won a bronze medal in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay in 1972 by swimming for the East Germany team in the preliminary round. He finished in fifth and sixth place in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay in 1968 and in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay in 1972, respectively, whereas individually he failed to reach the finals in the 200 m and 400 m freestyle.
Karl-Heinz Kutschke is a retired East German modern pentathlete and swimmer. He started his career as a swimmer, winning three national titles in the 1500 m and 4×200 m freestyle events and being selected as a reserve for the 1960 Summer Olympics. He then changed to pentathlon and won three national titles in 1965, 1967 and 1968. He competed in pentathlon at the 1968 Summer Olympics and finished fourth individually and sixth with the East German team.
Carsten Dehmlow is a German swimmer who won seven medals at European Short Course Swimming Championships of 1998–2004. While winning gold medals in 2001, 2002 and 2003 his team set new world records in the 4×50 m medley relay.
Fabian Friedrich is a German swimmer who won one silver and two gold medals at European Short Course Swimming Championships in 2003 and 2004. While winning the 4×50 m medley relay in 2003, his team set a new world record.
Hans-Joachim "HaJo" Geisler is a retired German swimmer who won a gold and a bronze medal at the 1975 World Aquatics Championships. He also competed at the 1972 and 1976 Summer Olympics. In 1972 his team finished fourth in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay, 0.15 seconds short of a bronze medal. Between 1973 and 1978 he won eight national titles, including six in the 400 m individual medley event.
Frank Wennmann is a retired German swimmer who won four medals at the European and world championships in 1977–1981, three of them in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay. Between 1978 and 1980 he also won three national titles in the 200 m and 400 m freestyle events.
Jürgen Glas is a retired German breaststroke swimmer who won a silver medal in the 4 × 100 m medley relay at the 1973 World Aquatics Championships. In 1973 and 1975 he won four national titles in total and twice finished in second place.
Bert Göbel is a retired German swimmer who won a silver medal in the 4 × 100 m medley relay at the 1986 World Aquatics Championships. He also won national championships in the 100 m breaststroke events in 1986 and 1987.
André Schadt is a retired German swimmer who won a silver medal in the 4 × 100 m medley relay at the 1986 World Aquatics Championships. He also won two gold medals in freestyle relays at the European Championships in 1985 and 1989. In 1986 and 1989 he won the national championships in the 100 m freestyle event.
Klaus Bodinger was a German swimmer who specialized in the 200 m breaststroke. In this discipline he won two national titles in 1952–1953 and a gold medal at the 1954 European Aquatics Championships competing for East Germany. He then moved to West Germany, where he won three national titles in 1955, 1957 and 1958. He also won a bronze medal at the 1958 European Aquatics Championships competing for West Germany.

Rolf Beab is a retired German breaststroke swimmer who won one gold and one silver medal at the 1985 European Aquatics Championships. Between 1985 and 1988 he won four national titles in the 50 m and 100 m breaststroke events.
Thomas Lebherz is a retired German backstroke swimmer who won a gold medal in the 4 × 100 m medley relay at the 1985 European Aquatics Championships. Between 1979 and 1986 he won six national titles in the 100 m and 200 m backstroke events. His son, Yannick Lebherz is also a competitive swimmer.
Matthias Pechmann is a retired German swimmer who won two medals in the individual medley events at the 1970 European Aquatics Championships. Between 1968 and 1970 he won three national titles in the 400 m medley.
Peter Rund is a retired German water polo player and swimmer. He competed at the 1968 Summer Olympics, and finished in sixth place with the East German team, contributing 13 goals in 9 matches. He also competed in swimming at the national level, winning the East German championships in the 4×100 m freestyle relay in 1970.
Thomas Dreßler is a retired East German swimmer who won a silver and a bronze medal in the 4×100 m medley relay at the European championships in 1985 and 1987, respectively. Between 1984 and 1988 he won ten national titles in butterfly events.
Karl Wittenberg was a German swimmer who specialized in the 200 m breaststroke. In this event he won the national title and a silver medal at the European Championships in 1931.
Gerhard Deutsch was a German swimmer. In 1931 he won the 100 m backstroke event at the national and European championships.
