Simo Ezra Mfayela (died 28 December 2020) was a South African politician from KwaZulu-Natal who served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from May 2019 until his death. He was the sole permanent representative of the Inkatha Freedom Party and the deputy provincial chairperson of the party. Mfayela was the son of the former senator Dingizwe Phineas Mfayela.

Life and career

Mfayela's father, Dingizwe, was a senator and a senior member of the Inkatha Freedom Party. [1] He is deceased. Mfayela was elected deputy provincial chairperson of the IFP in June 2019, deputising for Thamsanqa Ntuli. [2]

Parliamentary career

Mfayela was sworn in as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces on 23 May 2019, following the 2019 general election held on 8 May. He was a member of the KwaZulu-Natal delegation and the sole permanent IFP representative. [3] Mfayela received his committee assignments on 24 June. [4]

He was a Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature from 2018 to 2022 and served as the Leader of the Opposition in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature from 2018 to 2019. He was the Provincial Leader of the KwaZulu-Natal Democratic Alliance (DA) from 2015 to 2021. Mncwango was the party's KwaZulu-Natal Premier candidate for the 2019 election.

The 35th Inkatha Freedom Party National General Conference was held from 23 to 25 August 2019 to elect the new leadership of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP). The previous elective conference was held in 2012. Party president Mangosuthu Buthelezi had announced his intention to retire after serving in the position for more than forty-four years. He was the party's inaugural president. It was understood that the party's IFP Extended National Council favoured the Leader of the Opposition in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, Velenkosini Hlabisa, to succeed him as party president. Hlabisa was elected unopposed.

Lindiwe Christabola Bebee is a South African politician. She has been serving as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces since May 2019. A member of the African National Congress, she is the whip of the KwaZulu-Natal provincial delegation. From May 2009 to May 2019, Bebee served as a Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature.

Siphosethu Lindinkosi Ngcobo is a South African politician who has been serving as the Secretary-General of the Inkatha Freedom Party since August 2019. He was elected to the National Assembly of South Africa in May 2019. Ngcobo is a former president of the National Teachers Union (NATU).

He was known for unilaterally ordering the expansion of the province's antiretrovirals programme during the HIV/AIDS epidemic, in defiance of the policy of the national government under President Thabo Mbeki. A founding member and former chairperson of the Inkatha Freedom Party, Mtshali was also national Minister of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology in the government of President Nelson Mandela from 1996 to 1999.

Nhlanhla Mzungezwa Hadebe is a South African politician who has served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from KwaZulu-Natal since 2022. Hadebe is a member of the Inkatha Freedom Party.

Makhosazana Mpho Mdlalose is a South African politician who has served in the National Assembly and KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature, variously representing the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), the National Democratic Convention (Nadeco), and the Democratic Alliance (DA).

Prince Nhlanhla Elijah Zulu was a South African politician and prince of the Zulu royal family. He represented the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in the National Assembly from 1995 until his death in 2007. A founding member of the IFP in 1975, he also served on the party's National Council until his death.

Faith Xolile Gasa is a South African politician who was KwaZulu-Natal's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education and Culture from August 2000 to June 2001. She represented the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in the National Assembly from 1994 to 1995 and in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature from 1995 until her death in 2005. A teacher by profession, she was also a former chairperson of the IFP Women's Brigade.
