Simon J. H. Smits (born 13 September 1955) is the former Dutch ambassador to the United Kingdom. He completed a Harting Fellowship at the University of Oxford after which he entered the diplomatic service and received postings to Bangladesh, Geneva, Zagreb, The Hague, South Africa and Brussels as the permanent representative to the European Union. In 2006 he began to work for Royal Dutch Shell, and from 2011 at the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Innovation and Economic Affairs. He was subsequently Director General for Foreign Economic Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. [1] [2]

The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) is a proposed free trade agreement in the Asia-Pacific region between the ten member states of ASEAN, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, and five of their FTA partners—Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand, and South Korea. The 15 negotiating countries account for 30% of the world's population and just under 30% of the global GDP. It is expected to be signed in November 2020.

The French–Dutch relations refer to the interstate and bilateral relations between France and the Netherlands. The two countries notably share a border division in the Caribbean island of Saint Martin, to which the northern part of the island is a French overseas collectivity known as the Collectivity of Saint Martin, while the southern part of the island is a Dutch constituent country known as Sint Maarten. Robert-Jan Smits is the President of the Executive Board of the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands since May 2019. In 2018-2019, he was a senior adviser for open access and innovation at the European Political Strategy Centre and from 2010 to 2018, he served as director-general of research and innovation (RTD) at the European Commission. He is known for his key roles in planning Plan S, to ensure that all publicly funded scientific publications are available in Open Access by 2020, as well as for being one of the main architects of Horizon 2020.
