The band commenced as a musical entity in 2004, with their first and only release, Coming Alive, a studio album, where it released on June 20, 2006, [2] from Blood and Ink Records. [3] Anchors, awarding the album three and a half stars from Punknews.org, states, "this remains a solid, solid hardcore record, and a landmark of sorts, in that it's the first release I've heard from Blood & Ink records that didn't end up with a cozy home in my garbage can." [3] Reviewing the album for Indie Vision Music, Josh Murphy writes, "This is an album for fans of this genre but I don’t see it branching beyond that." [2]
Kurt Travis is an American singer, songwriter, and musician from Sacramento, California. He is currently part of the American post-hardcore bands Royal Coda and Push Over and the math rock duo Gold Necklace, and was formerly a vocalist in the rock bands Dance Gavin Dance and A Lot Like Birds.

On June 30, 2013, As Blood Runs Black announced that they would be self-releasing their newest album, Ground Zero, with the help of crowdfunding via IndieGoGo; this was successful and the album was released on October 27, 2014. It is also said that former guitarist Ernie Flores had returned to the band as he has been doing "guitar playthroughs" of songs from their first album Allegiance on February and March 2021. However, it is not confirmed that he rejoined.
