Anhui is an inland province located in East China. Its provincial capital and largest city is Hefei. The province is located across the basins of the Yangtze and Huai rivers, bordering Jiangsu and Zhejiang to the east, Jiangxi to the south, Hubei and Henan to the west, and Shandong to the north. With a population of 61 million, Anhui is the 9th most populous province in China. It is the 22nd largest Chinese province based on area, and the 12th most densely-populated region of all 34 Chinese provincial regions. Anhui's population is mostly composed of Han Chinese. Wuhu is a prefecture-level city in southeastern Anhui province, China. Huangshan is a prefecture-level city in southern Anhui Province, People's Republic of China. Huangshan means Yellow Mountain in Chinese and the city is named after the famously scenic Yellow Mountains which cover much of the city's vast geographic expanse. The prefectural city of Huangshan includes three urban districts and four counties. The urban center of Huangshan was originally the city of Tunxi and is now called Tunxi District. Locals still call the city Tunxi to distinguish the urban core from other parts of Huangshan. Chizhou is a prefecture-level city in the south of Anhui province, China. It borders Anqing to the northwest, Tongling and Wuhu to the northeast, Xuancheng to the east, Huangshan to the southeast, and the province of Jiangxi to the southwest. Its population was 1,342,764 as of the 2020 census, of whom 615,274 lived in the built-up area made of Guichi District. Mount Jiuhua (Jǐuhuáshān), located in Qingyang county, is one of the four sacred mountains of Chinese Buddhism.

The Anhui–Jiangxi railway or Wan'gan railway, is a single-track railroad in eastern China between Wuhu in southern Anhui Province and Guixi in northern Jiangxi Province. The line is 551 km (342 mi) long and was built between 1905 and 1985. Cities along route include Wuhu, Xuancheng, Ningguo, Jixi, She County, Huangshan City, Xiuning, Yi County, and Qimen in Anhui Province and Jingdezhen, Leping, Wannian and Guixi in Jiangxi Province.
The Xuancheng–Hangzhou railway or Xuanhang railway is a double-track railroad in eastern China between Xuancheng in southern Anhui Province and Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province. The line is 224 km (139 mi) long and was built in three parts, in 1958, 1972 and 1988. Cities along route include Hangzhou, Deqing, Huzhou, and Changxing in Zhejiang Province and Guangde, Shizipu and Xuancheng in Anhui Province. In 2005, a second track was added to the Xuanhang Line.
