Sjaron Minailo is a Dutch Israeli opera director. [1] [2] [3] He is the founder of Studio Minailo, an Amsterdam based studio for experimental opera, working throughout Europe in opera houses such as La Monnaie, Dutch National Opera, Bergen National Opera and Opera Poznan.
Minailo was born in 1979 in Arad, Israel, to Soviet Union immigrants. During his schooling in the Thelma Yellin High School for the Arts, he received initial training as an actor. After completing his graduation, Minailo joined the University of Amsterdam for BA and MA in Theatre Studies. During his time at the university, he created a theatre group with co-students to work on the musical theatre before switching to opera. [4]
After graduating, Minailo started working as a freelance director and was a director in residence for four years at the Dutch Chamber Opera House from 2008 to 2012. During that period and after, he has directed several music-theatre and opera production in commission or through his own studio. [5] In 2016, he received a nomination in the Young Director category at 2016 International Opera Awards. In 2021 Minailo was appointed as Artist-Curator at the Opera Forward Festival of the Dutch National Opera where he is responsible for the OFF Labs.
Minailo worked as a art tutor at Sandberg Institute, Amsterdam and a tutor at University of the Underground. [6] He also work as a coach for young talents at Opera Forward Festival at the Dutch National Opera and Akademie voor Dans en Theater. [7]
From 2022 to 2024 Minailo led a temporary programme at the Sandberg Institute, titled Re:master Opera. [8]
In 2024 Minailo was appointed as artistic director of the music-theatre department at ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem [9]

STEIM was a center for research and development of new musical instruments in the electronic performing arts, located in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Harry Alfred Robert Kupfer was a German opera director and academic. A long-time director at the Komische Oper Berlin, he worked at major opera houses and at festivals internationally. Willem Theodoor "Wim T." Schippers is a Dutch artist, comedian, television director, and voice actor. During the 1960s, he worked mostly as a visual artist, associated with the international Fluxus-movement. As a television writer, director, and actor he is responsible for some of the most notable and controversial shows on Dutch televisions from the 1960s to the 1990s, creating a number of lasting characters and enriching the language with terms and expressions first coined in his shows. Ivo van Hove is a Belgian theatre director known as the artistic director of Toneelgroep Amsterdam in the Netherlands and for his Off-Broadway avant-garde experimental theatre productions. Floris Kaayk is a Dutch digital artist. He grew up in Tiel as the son of artist couple Coen and Guusje Kaayk. Kaayk graduated summa cum laude from the animation department of AKV St. Joost academy of Art and Design in Breda, and gained a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam. The Sandberg Institute is a postgraduate institution in Amsterdam that offers the master's programme of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. It is named after Willem Sandberg. Since 1995, the Sandberg Institute has been offering a number of master's programmes in art and design. The director of the Sandberg Institute since 2010 is Jurgen Bey.
Monique Pauline Maria Josephine Toebosch, also known by the pseudonym Paul Rubens, was a Dutch actress, artist and musician. She began her performing career in 1969 and produced improvised music. Toebosch collaborated with Michel Waisvisz in multiple theatre productions and did solo productions before moving into the visual arts scene as an installation artist. She was a lecturer at the audiovisual department of Amsterdam's Gerrit Rietveld Academie; at ArtEZ University of Arts during the 1996–97 academic year; at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten from 1996 to 2000 and was director of the post-academic course DasArts (later the Master of Theatre of the Amsterdam University of the Arts from 2004 to 2007. She was a recipient of the Sandberg Prize and the Arti Medal of Arti et Amicitiae.
