Slade Architecture is a New York City based architecture and design firm founded in 2002 by Hayes and James Slade. [1] The firm has completed a diverse range of domestic and international projects. Its work has been exhibited and published widely. [2] The Architectural League of New York selected Slade Architecture as a winner of its 2010 Emerging Voices, [3] an annual invited competition for North American firms and individuals with distinct design voices and significant bodies of realized work. [4] Slade Architecture was selected by the New York City Department of Design & Construction to participate in its Excellence in Design and Construction Program in 2004, 2006, 2009, and 2016.[ citation needed ]

Among Slade Architecture's awards are national and regional AIA awards, [5] SARA National and regional Design Awards, [6] several Best of Year awards from Interior Design magazine, [7] Association of Retail Environments Store of the Year Award, Chain Store Age Best in Show Award, Fast Company Masters of Design issue, Contract magazine Best of the Year Award in Retail and Businessweek/ Architectural Record Design Excellence Award.

Slade's work has been shown at the Venice Biennale [8] and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. [9] The firm's work has been published in Architectural Record Metropolis magazine and Interior Design magazine. [10] Slade has completed architectural and interior design projects and installations in the US, China and South Korea.

Principal background

Hayes Slade, AIA

Hayes Slade is a co-founder of Slade Architecture. In addition to her role at the firm, Hayes is an active member of the broader architecture community including the AIA. She was the 2019 President of the NY Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. [11] She has Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering degrees from Cornell University as well as an MBA from the Wharton School of Business. She has lectured widely and taught design at Parsons the New School for Design and Syracuse University School of Architecture.

Hayes has been recognized with a variety of honors including the Architectural League of New York Emerging Voices. [12] Hayes previously worked in London and New York at Arup, Boston Consulting Group and SOM.

James Slade, FAIA, LEED AP

James Slade has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University and a Masters of Architecture degree from Columbia University where he was awarded an Honor Award for Excellence in Design on graduation. [13] James was recognized by the Architectural League of New York's League Prize in 2000 [14] and was a juror for the program the following year. He was selected as a finalist in the 2003 MoMA /PS1 Young Architects Program. In 2010, he was selected for the Architecture League of New York's Emerging Voices. [12] He is a licensed architect in New York, New Jersey, Florida, Missouri, Pennsylvania and Wyoming and a LEED-AP, NCARB and IIDA.

He was elevated to the American Institute of Architect's College of Fellows (FAIA) in 2016. [15]

In addition to his work at Slade Architecture, he has taught design studios at Parsons The New School for Design, Syracuse University, Barnard College at Columbia University, Pratt Institute, Florida International University and Philadelphia University.

Before Slade Architecture, he was a founding partner of Cho Slade Architecture.

Giorgio Borruso is an Italian architect, best known for his innovative experiential designs for international retail fashion houses. He attended universities in Italy and Spain, in 2000 Borruso relocated his firm to Venice, Los Angeles, California.

Grimshaw Architects is an architectural firm based in London. Founded in 1980 by Sir Nicholas Grimshaw, the firm was one of the pioneers of high-tech architecture. In particular, they are known for their design of transport projects including Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA railway station, Waterloo International railway station and the award-winning Southern Cross railway station which was the recipient of the Royal Institute of British Architects Lubetkin Prize. Grimshaw is behind the design of the Sustainability Pavilion, an innovative net-zero building, for Expo 2020. The firm currently has offices in Los Angeles, New York, London, Paris, Dubai, Melbourne and Sydney, employing over 600 staff.

Patrick Tighe American architect

Patrick Tighe, FAIA, FAAR is an American architect and interior designer based in Los Angeles, California. He is the founder and principal of Tighe Architecture. Tighe was born in Lowell, Massachusetts. He received a Master of Architecture with Distinction from UCLA. Tighe worked for Frank O. Gehry & Associates, and was an associate of Thom Mayne’s Morphosis Architects for 7 years before leaving to found Tighe Architecture.

Frederic Schwartz American architect

Frederic David Schwartz was an American architect, author, and city planner whose work includes Empty Sky, the New Jersey 9-11 Memorial, which was dedicated in Liberty State Park on September 11, 2011, the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

Bohlin Cywinski Jackson is a United States-based architectural practice that was founded in 1965 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania by Peter Bohlin and Richard Powell. Bohlin's firm then merged with John F. Larkin and Bernard Cywinski's Philadelphia-based architectural practice, Larkin Cywinski, in 1979. It is recognized for its distinguished portfolio of residential, university, commercial, cultural and government projects.

1100 Architect

1100 Architect is an architecture firm based in New York City and Frankfurt founded by principals David Piscuskas and Juergen Riehm. It provides architectural design, programming, space analysis, interior design, and master planning services to both public and private clients, and its work includes educational and arts institutions, libraries, offices, residences, retail environments, and civic facilities.

Carol Ross Barney American architect (1949 - )

Carol Ross Barney is an American architect and the founder and Design Principal of Ross Barney Architects. She became the first woman to design a federal building when commissioned as architect for the Oklahoma City Federal Building, which replaced the bombed Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. Ross Barney's other projects include the JRC Synagogue, James I Swenson Civil Engineering Building, the CTA Morgan Street Station, and the Chicago Riverwalk.

bKL Architecture

bKL Architecture is an architecture practice in Chicago, Illinois, United States, founded in 2010 by Thomas Kerwin with the support of James Loewenberg. Practicing primarily in the United States and China, the office has locations in Chicago, Atlanta, Washington DC, and Shanghai, China.

Amale Andraos American architect

Amale Andraos is a New York-based designer. She was dean of the Columbia Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (2014-2021) and serves as advisor to the Columbia Climate School. She is the co-founder of the New York City architecture firm WORKac with her husband, Dan Wood. Her impact on architectural practice around the world was recognized when she was named Honorary Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada in 2021.

Ballinger is an architecture/engineering firm, one of the first in the United States to merge the disciplines of architecture and engineering into a professional practice. The firm's single office in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania houses a staff of over 200 people comprising three architectural studios, two multi-disciplinary engineering studios and an interiors studio. Ballinger is one of the largest architectural firms in the Philadelphia region and known for its work in academic, healthcare, corporate, and research planning and design.

Oppenheim Architecture is an architecture, planning, and interior practice based in Miami, New York, and Basel founded in 1999 by Chad Oppenheim. The firm has received multiple distinctions, including over 45 AIA Awards. Projects range between hospitality, commercial mixed-use, retail, and residential buildings in over 25 countries. The firm is notable for designing L.A. Villa, film director Michael Bay's residence. In 2018, the practice received the National Design Award for Interior Design by Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.

David Montalba, FAIA, SIA, LEED AP is a Swiss-American architect based in Santa Monica, California. He is the founding principal of Montalba Architects, established in 2004.
