The building was initially established as a 26-room boarding house in 1962, catering to British soldiers stationed in Singapore. However, when the British military withdrew their forces in Singapore by 1971, the hotel instead began targetting Japanese engineers and industralists, then Thai and Indonesian businessman. By the late 1970s, the Chiam family, the hotel's owners, decided to give the hotel a facelift. The newly-renovated building had a Tudor-style façade, based on a suggestion by restaurateur Stanley Foster, who also gave the hotel its name. By the late 1980s, the Chiams began to plan for a $250,000 renovation which would inrtoduce the Tudor-style theming into the hotel's interior as well. By then, the hotel's capacity had grown to 32 rooms. The hotel also housed the Berkely, a 16th-century themed restaurant and pub. [1] A food critic from The Straits Times wrote a positive review of the restaurant in August 1982, giving it a rating of 7 out of 10. [2] The hotel's interior featured lace curtains, framed tapestry works depicting the English countryside and a mock fireplace. [3]
In August 2017, it was announced that the hotel had been sold to TSky Development, who planned to redevlop it and an adjoining site into a condominium, for $80.5 million. [4] [5] The Berkeley closed on 29 October and the hotel itself closed on November 28, and was demolished in the following year. [6]

The Fullerton Hotel Singapore is a five-star luxury hotel located near the mouth of the Singapore River, in the Downtown Core of the Central Area, Singapore. It was originally known as the Fullerton Building, and also as the General Post Office Building. The address is 1 Fullerton Square. The Fullerton Building was named after Robert Fullerton, the first Governor of the Straits Settlements (1826–1829). Commissioned in 1924 as part of the British colony's centennial celebrations, the building was designed as an office building by Major P.H. Keys of Keys & Dowdeswell, a Shanghai firm of architects, which won the project through an architectural design competition. The architectural firm also designed the Capitol Theatre, its adjoined Capitol Building and the Singapore General Hospital. In 2015, it was designated as a national monument of Singapore.

Yue Hwa Building is a historic building located at the junction of Eu Tong Sen Street and Upper Cross Street in Chinatown, Singapore, next to Chinatown MRT station. Built by Swan and Maclaren in 1927, it was then the tallest building in Chinatown and was known as Nam Tin Building (南天大厦), owned by Lum Chang Holdings. The building housed the six-storey Great Southern Hotel, along with a few shops and cabarets that were popular among Chinese travellers. In 1993, Lum Chang Holdings sold the building to Hong Kong businessman Yu Kwok Chun, who converted it to the first Yue Hwa Chinese Products department store in Singapore in 1994. The renovation process, which conserved the exterior while adding features such as an atrium and waterfall to the interior, won the building the Architectural Heritage Award by the Urban Redevelopment Authority in 1997.

Copthorne Orchid Hotel was a hotel at the corner of Dunearn Road and Dunkirk Avenue in Singapore. Opened as the Orchid Inn in 1970, it was renamed the Novotel Orchid Inn in 1972. In 1998, it was renamed the Copthorne Orchid Hotel when the hotel's owners, City Developments Limited, acquired the Copthorne chain of hotels. It was demolished in April 2011 to make way for a condominium.
