Smashing Satellites was a Canadian rock band formed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada by former My Darkest Days guitarist Sal Costa.
After releasing two successful albums and selling out arenas with My Darkest Days, Sal Costa decided it was time to go full force and start his own band. On January 4, 2013 My Darkest Days announced Costa's departure and quickly Costa stated he would continue his musical career by forming his own band. [1]
Throughout the rest of 2013 and the first half of 2014, Costa advertised the group by posting updates on his personal Facebook page. In the summer 2014 Costa changed the page name from his name "Sal Coz Costa" to "Smashing Satellites".
Costa traveled to Los Angeles with song ideas in his head, and went to work with producer and songwriter Bob Marlette, after spending a few months writing and recording music and experimenting with various different instruments such as live trumpet players, 40 different guitars and vintage keyboards and amplifiers Costa returned to Toronto where he recruited band members for a live band. Costa recruited members Devon Lougheed, Mykey Thomas and Mick Valentyne to tour and become official members of Smashing Satellites.
After Costa successfully recruited band members to record and perform with him, the group traveled to Oklahoma to Hinder drummer, Cody Hanson's production studio "Back-Lounge Productions" to record and produce their debut EP and their debut album. Costa befriended Hanson while Costa's former band My Darkest Days toured with Hanson's group Hinder various times before Costa left the band.
On August 18, 2014 the band announced that their debut EP titled "SonicAluzion (A-Side)" will be released September 30, 2014 and that they will be releasing the debut single "Hounds" tomorrow August 19, 2014. [3] [4]
The group toured extensively throughout the Toronto area in support of the EP.
The band also released another single from "A-Side" titled "Waterfall" on February 12, 2015. The single debuted at No. 48 48 on the Billboard's Top 50 Alternative. [5]
On April 14, 2015 Smashing Satellites announced the release of the first single from their debut album titled "What It's All About" and that their debut album "SonicAluzion" will be released June 16, 2015. The album will consist of the 5 songs from their debut EP "SonicAluzion (A-Side) 8 other new tracks. [6] [7]
Smashing Satellites released their debut album SonicAluzion on June 16, 2015 as planned. The album spawned the singles "Hounds", "Waterfall", "What It's All About", "Love Is Forever" and "Living Loud". [6] [8] [9] [10]
On January 8, 2016 Smashing Satellites released their new single "Gamblin' Man" the single debuted number 38 to the Billboard's top 100 "Hard Rock" tracks for January 2016 [11] [12]
On May 26, 2017 the band released "Benny", the lead single for their next EP titled White Elephant. [13] [14]
On October 22, 2017 Costa announced his retirement from the music industry and the end of Smashing Satellites as the result, however Costa stated that he will still release the upcoming "White Elephant" EP as a gift for fans. [15]

Though failing to break through early in their tenure, the band has received acclaim for their albums Undoing Ruin, Deliver Us, and The Eternal Return. Deliver Us debuted at number 110 on the Billboard album charts, with sales of 6,600, and their more recent effort The Eternal Return garnered them an even higher position in the Billboard album charts at number 104. Their album Godless Prophets & the Migrant Flora charted at 42 on the Billboard 200, a peak for the band, and it marked a stylistic shift in the band's discography.
Hinder is an American rock band from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, formed in 2001 by former lead singer Austin John Winkler, guitarist Joe "Blower" Garvey, and drummer Cody Hanson with bassist Mike Rodden and guitarist Mark King joining in 2003, solidifying the line-up. The band released four studio albums with Winkler; Extreme Behavior (2005), Take It to the Limit (2008), All American Nightmare (2010) and Welcome to the Freakshow (2012). Cody Hanson, along with former lead singer Austin Winkler, wrote the majority of the band's music on their first four albums. After Winkler left the band in 2013, they looked for a new lead vocalist, and added Marshal Dutton. They have since released When the Smoke Clears (2015) and The Reign (2017) with their new vocalist. Their seventh studio album is currently in the works. The band was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 2007.
The Horrors are an English rock band formed in Southend-on-Sea in 2005 by lead vocalist Faris Badwan, guitarist Joshua Hayward, keyboardist and synthesizer player Tom Furse, bassist Rhys Webb, and drummer and percussionist Joe Spurgeon. Their music has been classified as garage rock, garage punk, gothic rock, shoegaze and post-punk revival.
Tokyo Police Club was an indie rock band from Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. Founded in 2005, it consisted of vocalist and bassist Dave Monks, keyboardist Graham Wright, guitarist Josh Hook, and drummer Greg Alsop. The band found early success with their 2006 debut EP A Lesson in Crime, which they followed with several popular releases including the albums Elephant Shell and Champ in 2008 and 2010, respectively. During the 2010s, they released three other studio albums. Among other nominations, the band had been twice nominated for the Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year, in 2011 for Champ and in 2019 for TPC. They disbanded at the end of November 2024.

Nicole Margaret Fiorentino is an American bass guitarist. She is best known for her work with alternative rock bands Veruca Salt and The Smashing Pumpkins. In both bands, she played as a touring member before contributing to albums. She replaced Eva Gardner of Veruca Salt before recording 2006's IV. For the band's final album Ghost Notes in 2015, Fiorentino was replaced by returning founding member Steve Lack, but reappeared on Louise Post's debut solo album Sleepwalker and corresponding tour in 2023. With the Smashing Pumpkins, Fiorentino, she became an official member in 2010. She performs on the band's third Teargarden by Kaleidyscope EP (2011) and subsequent album Oceania (2012). Fiorentino departed the band in 2014.
My Darkest Days was a Canadian rock band based in Peterborough, Ontario, consisting of lead vocalist Matt Walst, bassist Brendan McMillan, drummer Doug Oliver, guitarist Sal Costa, and keyboardist Reid Henry. They were discovered by Chad Kroeger of Nickelback, who signed them to his record label, 604 Records. They are best known for their 2010 single "Porn Star Dancing".
Yuck was a rock band that originated in London, England, in 2009. The band's final lineup was drummer Jonny Rogoff, guitarist Ed Hayes, bassist Mariko Doi, and lead vocalist/guitarist Max Bloom, who formerly played in the band Cajun Dance Party along with former Yuck member Daniel Blumberg. The band's self-titled debut album was released through Fat Possum on 21 February 2011 in the United Kingdom. Critics have likened the band to bands such as Dinosaur Jr., The Smashing Pumpkins, Pavement, My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth.
The Unguided is a Swedish melodic death metal band, formed by Richard Sjunnesson, Roger Sjunnesson, Roland Johansson and John Bengtsson, all of whom are former members of Sonic Syndicate. Later, they were joined by Cipher System bassist Henric Liljesand. Bengtsson was replaced by Richard Schill in late 2012 and Johansson was replaced by Jonathan Thorpenberg in 2016.

Martha are a rock band from Pity Me, a village in County Durham in the North East of England. After singles on their own Discount Horse label and Odd Box Records, their debut album Courting Strong, was released on Fortuna Pop! and Salinas Records in 2014. As of 2022 they have released four full-length albums on cult UK and US based independent record labels.
Saint Asonia is a Canadian-American rock supergroup consisting of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Adam Gontier, lead guitarist Mike Mushok, bassist and backing vocalist Cale Gontier, and drummer Cody Watkins. In 2017, the band's original drummer, Rich Beddoe, left the band and was replaced by Mushok's Staind bandmate Sal Giancarelli, and one year later bassist and backing vocalist Corey Lowery left the band to join Seether and his place was taken by Gontier's cousin Cale Gontier. The band formed in Toronto, Canada in 2015 after Gontier's departure from Three Days Grace in 2013. Their second studio album, titled Flawed Design, was released on October 25, 2019. On January 26, 2020, Art of Dying drummer Cody Watkins became the new drummer for Saint Asonia replacing Sal Giancarelli.

The band was formed in 2014 by members Ryan Levine and Andrew Ampaya, who were originally signed to RCA Records as the band Test Your Reflex from 2004-2009, and also recorded music under the name No Country as well as Low Shoulder (2009-2014).
Palaye Royale is an American rock band from Las Vegas, formed in 2008 by brothers Remington Leith, Sebastian Danzig, and Emerson Barrett. Formed under the name Kropp Circle, the band released one EP and two singles before changing their name to Palaye Royale in 2011. Under this name, they have released five full length albums and four EPs through Sumerian Records.
