Sneaker Freaker is an independent magazine and website that covers sneakers, streetwear, and sneaker culture. Started in Melbourne, the magazine reaches a global audience through print and online channels.

Contents

History

Sneaker Freaker was launched in October 2002 and was originally conceived as a means for its founder and editor, Simon ‘Woody’ Wood, to get free shoes. [1] The magazine is sold in more than 40 countries and has offices in Melbourne, London and Berlin. Sneakerfreaker.com provides sneaker news, opinion pieces, and other content .

Publishing

In 2018, Sneaker Freaker published its 40th issue. [2]

In late 2018, Sneaker Freaker published The Ultimate Sneaker Book with Taschen. [3] The 700 page book serves as an anthology of Sneaker Freaker magazine and the last 100 years of collaborations, key releases, and notable events that have shaped the industry. It incorporates all 39 issues in one, including interviews and unreleased sneaker collection.

Sneaker Freaker has also published books with Nike, [4] Globe, [5] Adidas, New Balance, [6] Reebok, [7] G-SHOCK, [8] PONY, [9] and Puma. [10]

Adidas Yeezy was a fashion collaboration between American rapper, designer, and entrepreneur Kanye West's Yeezy and German sportswear company Adidas. It offered sneakers in limited edition colorways, as well as shirts, jackets, track pants, socks, slides, lingerie and slippers. The first shoe model was released in February 2015. In 2020 Forbes described Yeezy's rise as "one of the great retail stories of the century". Yeezy influenced and inspired a multitude of other fashion brands. Outside of the former Adidas collaboration, Yeezy is the name of Kanye's company Yeezy LLC and is not connected to Adidas.

Nike and Off-White: "The Ten" was a sneakers collaboration between Nike and Off-White in 2017. It initially involved the deconstruction of ten iconic Nike silhouettes, designed by Founder and CEO of Off-White, Virgil Abloh. The ten shoes were individually broken down by Abloh, and then rebuilt with a different design and rearranged components. The collaboration sold out and the shoes became highly sought after. Further additions to this collaboration were then added throughout 2018 and 2019 which included endorsements from athletes and celebrities but are not included in the original "ten".

Cynthia Lu started the brand inside of her apartment in Brooklyn, NY. Lu initially developed concepts for the brand in 2012, when she began a job with the P.R office of the apparel company "Billionaire Girls Club", which is owned by Pharrell Williams. The name of the brand could be a nod towards her nickname, which is Cactus or Plant.

Fenty X Puma, is a fashion collaboration between Barbadian singer-songwriter and businesswoman Rihanna and German clothing manufacturer Puma. Rihanna first partnered with Puma in 2014 as the creative director and brand ambassador appearing in advertisements in 2015. In 2016, the debut colorway collection was launched with a live-streamed fashion show, a day before Kanye West unveiled Yeezy Season 4.
