Sofia Oxenham is an English television actress. She played Tess Tregidden on the BBC One series Poldark and Carrie on the Disney+ series Extraordinary .
Oxenham has an Australian father and Cornish mother, two brothers and a sister. Oxenham was born in France but grew up in Devon before the family moved to Cornwall when she was a teenager.
Oxenham was a keen actress and participated in school plays and local amateur dramatic productions in Cornwall. Twice she reached the final round of RADA interviews without becoming a successful applicant. She moved to London and worked as a runner on a film set and got paid to perform at children parties before a third application was successful. [1] She graduated from RADA in 2017. [2]
Oxenham's television roles have included playing series 5 regular Tess Tregidden on BBC One’s series Poldark , [3] a recurring role as Eydis on Netflix series Cursed, as well as having parts on Doc Martin , Dracula , Soulmates , and Grantchester . [4] [5]
Since 2023 Oxenham played in the lead role of Carrie in the Disney+ superhero comedy series Extraordinary . [6] Carrie has the ability to communicate with spirits from beyond the world of living. [7] Oxenham described it as the first comedic role she had ever performed. [8] Mike Hale in The New York Times praised her for the communicating beyond the grave scenes which “a lip-syncing Oxenham does to great comic effect”. [9] The show was well received and renewed for a second season by Disney+ in January 2023. [10] In March 2024, she was nominated in the “Female performance in a comedy programme” category at the 2024 British Academy Television Awards. [11]
In 2024, she appeared in Amazon Prime Video true-life series A Very Royal Scandal , appearing alongside Michael Sheen, playing Princess Eugenie. [12]

Poldark is a British historical drama television series created and written by Debbie Horsfield and based on the novel series of the same name by Winston Graham. It aired on BBC One for five series from 8 March 2015 – 26 August 2019, adapting the first seven of the twelve novels in the series, which were previously adapted by the 1975–1977 BBC television series. Set between 1781 and 1801, it stars Aidan Turner as Ross Poldark, a British Army veteran of the American Revolutionary War, who returns to his home in Cornwall to find that his father has died, leaving his estate in ruins. Extraordinary is a British superhero comedy television series created by Emma Moran. It premiered on the Disney+ Star platform internationally, Star+ in Latin America and Hulu in the United States, on 25 January 2023.
