Sogn og Fjordane was, up to 1 January 2020, a county in western Norway, when it was merged to become part of Vestland county. Bordering previous counties Møre og Romsdal, Oppland, Buskerud, and Hordaland, the county administration was in the village of Hermansverk in Leikanger municipality. The largest town in the county was Førde.

Sogndal Airport, Haukåsen is located 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) southwest of Kaupanger.

Esefjorden is a fjord arm on the north side of the Sognefjord in the municipality of Sogndal in Vestland county, Norway. The fjord is about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) long and its mouth is just west of the mouth of the larger Fjærlandsfjord. The village of Balestrand is located on the south side of the fjord, at the mouth. The village of Tjugum lies at the north side of the mouth of the fjord. At Dragsviki, just east of Tjugum, there are regular ferry connections to Hella in Sogndal Municipality and to Vangsnes in Vik Municipality. Tjugum Church is located on the shore of the Esefjorden, just east of Dragsviki. The Norwegian County Road 55 follows the shoreline of the fjord on both sides.

Vangsnes is a village located in the municipality of Vik in Vestland county, Norway. It's located on a relatively flat and fertile peninsula that juts out on the south side of the Sognefjorden, roughly at the midpoint of the fjord which is Norway's longest. The village of Balestrand lies about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) to the northwest and the villages of Leikanger-Hermansverk lie about 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) straight east. Vangsnes Church is located in the village.

Balestrand is a village in Sogndal Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the northern shore of the Sognefjorden, at the mouth of the small Esefjorden. It sits about 20 kilometres (12 mi) west of the village area of Leikanger-Hermansverk and about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) northwest of the village of Vangsnes. The small village of Tjugum lies less than 700 metres (2,300 ft) north of Balestrand, across the Esefjorden. The local Tjugum Church is located there, serving the people of the village of Balestrand.
Sæle is a village in the Sogndal Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the northern shore of the Sognefjorden. The village lies along the Norwegian County Road 55, about 18 kilometres southwest of the village of Balestrand.
Tjugum Church is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Sogndal Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located just outside the village of Balestrand. It is one of two churches for the Balestrand parish which is part of the Sogn prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in an octagonal design in 1863 using plans drawn up by the architect Christian Henrik Grosch. The church seats about 320 people.
Sæle Church is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Sogndal Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Sæle, on the northern shore of the Sognefjorden. It is one of two churches for the Balestrand parish which is part of the Sogn prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The yellow, wooden church was built in a long church design with a Romanesque revival style in 1903 using plans drawn up by the architect Hans Jacob Sparre from Oslo. The church seats about 170 people.
The Frudal Tunnel is a road tunnel along Norwegian National Road 5 in Sogndal, Norway. The tunnel is approximately 6,758 metres (4.199 mi) long, starting at the Frudalen farm, passing through the mountains under the Frudalsbreen glacier, and exiting at the Berge farm area. The tunnel was inaugurated on 29 October 1994.

It had jurisdiction over the municipalities located in the areas surrounding the inner Sognefjorden. This included the municipalities of Sogndal, Aurland, Leikanger, Luster, Lærdal, and Årdal. Cases from this court could be appealed to Gulating Court of Appeal.
