Sol Eisner is an American former soccer player who played as a forward. [1] Eisner played in the American Soccer League, and on the United States men's national soccer team.

Biography

Eisner was born in Germany, and is Jewish. [1] [2] He had four brothers who also played soccer. [3]

Eisner was a star with the New York Americans [3] most seasons from 1937 to 1951, during which time the team was in the American Soccer League. [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] In 1946–47 he scored 14 of the team's 38 goals for the season. [10] He played 60 games for the team in his career, started 58 of them, and scored 79 goals. [11]

By July 1942 he was in the US military [2] where he lost his left eye during army maneuvers. [3] [12] [13] He played for the American Soccer League All Stars in 1947, nearly scoring in a 2–0 loss to Hapoel at Yankee Stadium in front of more than 40,000 fans. [14] [15]

He played an unofficial international game for the United States national team, in 1948 against Israel, and played for the American Soccer League All-Stars in a tour of Israel in 1951. [13] [16] [17] [18]

Eisner would later play for New York's Maccabi F.C. in the mid-1950s. [13] [19]

The 1936–37 season was the tenth season of competitive football in the British Mandate for Palestine under the Eretz Israel Football Association and the 5th under the Arab Palestine Sports Federation.

Joe Dawson is an American-Israeli former professional basketball player. He played high school basketball at Druid High School in his native Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and played four years of college basketball for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, leading the team in scoring and rebounding multiple times and was an all-conference selection. After going undrafted in the 1982 NBA draft, he started his professional career in the Continental Basketball Association, and was selected as an all-star in each of the three seasons he played there. After a brief experience in the USBL he moved abroad, playing in Venezuela and France. In 1987 he had his first experience in the Israeli league with Hapoel Holon: he would play in Israel for 14 seasons, leading the league in both scoring and rebounding in 1992. He was named the 1992 Israeli Basketball Premier League MVP. He was inducted in the Southern Miss Hall of Fame in 2011, and is the father of professional basketball player Shawn Dawson.

Eyal Shulman is an Israeli basketball player for Ironi Ramat Gan, who plays the point guard position. He was named the 2013 Israeli Basketball Premier League Most Improved Player.
