LyonpoSonam Tobgye (born 15 November 1949) is an eminent jurist from Bhutan. He served as Chief Justice of the High Court of Bhutan from 1991 through 2009 and as Chief Justice of the newly created Supreme Court of Bhutan from 2010 through 2014. [1] He also served as president of SAARCLAW,the South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation in Law,from 2011 through 2014. His public service spanned 43 years,beginning as master of household to King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck and ending in constitutionally-mandated retirement at the age of 65. [2]
During the gap between the administrations of Prime Ministers Jigme Thinley and Tshering Tobgay,he served as Bhutan's head of government as Chief Advisor to the interim government from 28 April to 27 July 2013. [3] [4]

"Druk Tsenden" is the national anthem of Bhutan. Adopted in 1953,the lyrics were written by Dolop Droep Namgay and possibly translated into English by Dasho Gyaldun Thinley. The accompanying music was composed by Aku Tongmi.

A kabney is a silk scarf worn as a part of the gho,the traditional male attire in Bhutan. It is raw silk,normally 90 cm × 300 cm with fringes. Kabney is worn over the traditional coat gho;it runs from the left shoulder to the right hip,and is worn at special occasions or when visiting a dzong. Kabney is also referred as Bura,which means wild silk.

The line of succession to the throne of Bhutan is based on the constitution of Bhutan. Currently the line of succession is according to male-preference cognatic primogeniture with males preceding females who are in the same degree of kinship. If the heir apparent has reached the age of majority of 21,the monarch would step down at age 65. If the heir apparent and the nearest people in the line of succession are deemed unsuitable,it is up to the monarch to decide who will be the next heir. If the monarch violates the constitution,they must abdicate.

The Druk Gyalpo is the head of state of the Kingdom of Bhutan. In the Dzongkha language,Bhutan is known as Drukyul which translates as "The Land of the Thunder Dragon". The Dorji family of Bhutan has been a prominent and powerful political family in the kingdom since the 12th century AD. Sir Raja Sonam Topgay Dorji CIE,also called Tobgay,was a member of the Dorji family and Bhutanese politician who served between 1917 and 1952 in the Royal Government under the First and Second Kings of Bhutan. During this period,Topgay Dorji officially held the posts of Gongzim,Deb Zimpon,and Trade Agent to the Government of Bhutan. As such,Topgay Dorji was responsible for fostering Anglo-Bhutanese relations,and later,Bhutan–India relations. Topgay's ties with the west and modernist political factions contributed significantly to the modern political landscape and modernization of Bhutan.
Jetsun Pema is the Druk Gyaltsuen of Bhutan,as the wife of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. She is currently the youngest queen consort in the world. She and the King have three children:Jigme Namgyel,the heir apparent to the Bhutanese throne,Jigme Ugyen,and Sonam Yangden.
The Order of Great Victory of the Thunder Dragon is the Highest Civilian Decoration in Bhutan awarded in recognition for outstanding dedication,loyalty and commitment. Instituted by King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck on 9 February 1967 and reorganized by King Jigme Singye Wangchuck on 29 September 1985 as the country’s principal national honour,it was redesigned and instituted as the Second Highest Honor in the kingdom. The decoration consists of a Badge and a Star. Its postnominal letter is DWG.
