Sonja Larsen (born February 1, 1941) is a former American politician from the state of Iowa who served as a Republican in the Iowa House of Representatives for Ottumwa's 89th House District from 1979 to 1981, succeeding Charles Poncy before she was in turn succeeded by him the following election.

Larsen was born in Elk Horn, Shelby County, Iowa in 1941 to Marie and Einar Leistad. She attended Elk Horn-Kimballton Community schools, graduating in 1959. She married Richard Larsen, having three children. [1]

Iowa 173 connects Elk Horn and Kimballton, two small towns with tributes to their residents' Danish heritage. From its intersection with Interstate 80 (I-80) north to Iowa 44, Iowa 173 is designated as part of the Western Skies Scenic Byway. Designated in 1930, the highway was originally a spur route into Elk Horn from Kimballton. The route was lengthened to its current extent in 1980.

Chris Larsen House United States historic place

The Chris Larsen House is a historic residence located in Elk Horn, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. The historic importance of the house is its association with Danish immigration into Shelby and Audubon counties from 1865 to 1924. It is also the best example in the area of the frame, gabled double-pile house type. It follows a basic foursquare plan with a broad eavefront gabled roof with a broad central gabled dormer, and symmetrical fenestration on the facade. This type of house construction was popular in the local Danish immigrant community from the 1890s into the 1910s. Chris Larsen, who had this house built in 1908, was a local merchant who immigrated to the United States in 1890. He and his wife Amanda had three children, and they had several boarders living with them as well.
