Fuel is an American rock band formed in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, United States, by guitarist and songwriter Carl Bell and bassist Jeff Abercrombie in 1989. They are known for their hit songs "Shimmer" from the album Sunburn, "Hemorrhage " and "Bad Day" from the album Something Like Human, and "Falls on Me" from the Grammy nominated album Natural Selection, as well as many other songs. The band has had numerous Top 10 Billboard rock hits, multiple videos in heavy rotation on MTV, VH1, and other former video channels, numerous live network TV performances in the US, Canada, and Australia, Platinum singles in Australia in addition to the US, and numerous songs on movie soundtracks such as Scream 3, Daredevil, and Godzilla. The album Sunburn is certified Platinum by the RIAA, and the album Something Like Human is certified Double-Platinum by the RIAA. The band has worldwide record sales of nearly 4 million records.
Collective Soul is an American rock band originally from Stockbridge, Georgia. Now based in Atlanta, the group consists of lead vocalist Ed Roland, rhythm guitarist Dean Roland, bassist Will Turpin, drummer Johnny Rabb, and lead guitarist Jesse Triplett. Formed in 1992, Collective Soul released their Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid album on the independent label Rising Storm Records in 1993. The band went from obscurity to popularity that year after the song "Shine" became an underground hit based on radio play. The album was re-released in 1994 under major label Atlantic Records.
Smile Empty Soul is an American rock band, originally from Santa Clarita, California, United States. It was started in 1998 by Sean Danielsen, Ryan Martin (bass), and Derek Gledhill (drums). Following the departure of Gledhill and Martin from the band in 2005 and 2017, respectively, Danielsen remains the only founding member still active as well as the band's primary songwriter, frontman, and leader.

Circus Diablo is an American rock band, formed in early 2006 by Billy Morrison (vocals), Billy Duffy and Ricky Warwick. Fuel frontman Brett Scallions and Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum subsequently joined the band on bass and drums, respectively. No musician on this album is still with the band. It was also Fuel's only studio album to feature new vocalist Toryn Green, and their final album for Epic Records. With a new singer, the album also introduced a new Fuel logo.

New Fuel drummer Tommy Stewart was unable to perform on the record as he had other obligations to fulfill, so longtime Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee performed drums on the track.
Manzarek–Krieger was an American rock band formed by two former members of The Doors, Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger, in 2002. They were also known as The Doors of the 21st Century, D21C, and Riders on the Storm. They settled on using Manzarek–Krieger or Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of The Doors for legal reasons, after acrimonious debates and court battles between the two musicians and Doors co-founder/ drummer John Densmore. They performed Doors material exclusively until the death of Manzarek in 2013.

Released March 4, 2014, it is their first studio effort since 2003's Natural Selection to feature original lead singer Brett Scallions and the first Fuel album not to feature original songwriter/guitarist, Carl Bell and bassist Jeff Abercrombie. Additionally, no one who participated in the recording of Fuel's previous album Angels & Devils participated in the recording of Puppet Strings.

According to Scallions the band had recorded the song several times and lost hope in it until producer Eddie Wohl convinced Scallions to record it for Puppet Strings.
Sean Julian Danielsen (born February 14, 1982) is an American musician and artistic painter, best known as the guitarist and lead vocalist of American rock bands Smile Empty Soul and World Fire Brigade. In addition to creating one studio album and three independent extended play albums, Danielsen has also collaborated on Noise Refinery compilation album Anger Management with former He Is Legend rhythm guitarist Mitchell Ray Marlow.
