The World Boxing Association (WBA), formerly known as the National Boxing Association (NBA), is the oldest and one of four major organizations which sanction professional boxing bouts, alongside the World Boxing Council (WBC), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO). The WBA awards its world championship title at the professional level. Founded in the United States in 1921 by 13 state representatives as the NBA, in 1962 it changed its name in recognition of boxing's growing popularity worldwide and began to gain other nations as members.
Andriy Mykolayovich Kotelnyk, best known by the Germanicised name Andreas Kotelnik, is a Ukrainian former professional boxer who competed between 2000 and 2014, and held the WBA super-lightweight title from 2008 to 2009. Randall Bailey is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1996 to 2016. He is a former world champion in two weight classes, having held the WBO light welterweight title from 1999 to 2000, and the IBF welterweight title in 2012. Additionally, he held the WBA interim light welterweight title in 2002. Nicknamed "The Knock-Out King" for his exceptional knockout power, Bailey is considered to be one of the hardest punchers in boxing history.
Herman Ngoudjo is a Cameroonian-Canadian former professional boxer who competed from 2003 to 2010, and challenged twice for the IBF junior-welterweight title in 2008 and 2009. As an amateur he represented Cameroon at the 2000 Olympics, reaching the opening round of the bantamweight bracket. Earlier he won a silver medal at the 1998 Commonwealth Games, also in the bantamweight division.
Khalid Rahilou is a French-Moroccan former professional boxer and kickboxer. He held the WBA light-welterweight world title between 1997 and 1998, and the EBU European title between 1994 and 1995.
Khabib Mevlidinovich Allakhverdiev is a Russian former professional boxer of Lezgin descent who competed from 2007 to 2015. He held the WBA (Regular) and IBO super-lightweight titles from 2012 to 2014, and as an amateur won a bronze medal in the lightweight division at the 2005 World Championships.
Jack Robert Culcay-Keth is an Ecuadorian-born German retired professional boxer. As an amateur he represented Germany, fighting at the 2008 Summer Olympics in the welterweight division, and winning a silver medal at the 2008 European Championships and gold at the 2009 World Championships. He held the WBA interim light-middleweight title between 2015 and 2017.
Gavin Rees is a boxing trainer and retired Welsh former professional boxing world champion who competed from 1998 to 2014. He held the WBA (Regular) super lightweight title from 2007 to 2008. At regional level, he held the British lightweight title twice between 2010 and 2012, and the EBU European lightweight title from 2011 to 2012.
Colin Lynes is a British former professional boxer who competed from 1998 to 2017. He held the IBO super lightweight title from 2004 to 2005. At regional level, he held the British super lightweight title in 2007; the EBU European super lightweight title from 2007 to 2008; and the British welterweight title from 2011 to 2012.
The Newbridge Boxing Club is a boxing gym operated by Enzo Calzaghe and based in Newbridge in South Wales. The club has been one of the most successful of recent years, at one point in 2007 boasting three genuine world champions in Joe Calzaghe, Enzo Maccarinelli and Gavin Rees. Other fighters of note who have won belts at the club include former Commonwealth light middleweight champion Bradley Pryce and former WBU champion and world title challenger Gary Lockett who retired in Sept 2008.
