The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) is a collegiate athletic conference whose full members are historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the Southeastern and the Mid-Atlantic United States. It participates in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) Division I, and in football, in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
The 1982 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament was the first Women's Basketball Tournament held under the auspices of the NCAA. From 1972 to 1982, there were national tournaments for Division I schools held under the auspices of the AIAW. The inaugural NCAA Tournament included 32 teams. Tennessee, Louisiana Tech, Cheyney, and Maryland met in the Final Four, held at the Norfolk Scope in Norfolk, Virginia and hosted by Old Dominion University, with Louisiana Tech defeating Cheyney for the title, 76-62. Louisiana Tech's Janice Lawrence was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. Her teammate Kim Mulkey went on to become the first woman to win NCAA Division I basketball titles as a player and coach, winning the 2005, 2012, 2019 titles as head coach at Baylor and the 2023 title at LSU..

The North Carolina A&T Aggies are the athletic teams that represent North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina, United States. The Bulldogs, led by fourth-year head coach Murray Garvin, played their home games at the SHM Memorial Center as members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. They finished the season 11–20, 7–9 in MEAC play to finish in a three-way tie for seventh place. They defeated Florida A&M in the MEAC tournament before losing in the quarterfinals to Norfolk State.

They finished the season 10–22, 6–10 in MEAC play to finish in 10th place. They lost to Morgan State in the first round of the MEAC tournament.

The Aggies, led by sixth year head coach Tarrell Robinson, play their home games at the Corbett Sports Center in Greensboro, North Carolina as members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. They finished the season 23–9, 15–1 in MEAC play win the MEAC regular season title with Bethune–Cookman. They won the MEAC women's tournament and earn an received automatic bid of the NCAA women's tournament where they lost to South Carolina in the first round.
