Environmental Responsibility

The United States General Services Administration presented Spectrum Industries with the Evergreen Award for contributions towards environmental sustainability.; from reducing air emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds, by 60% to reducing landfill waste by 75% as the result of grinding post-manufacturing waste.

Company history

The company originated in Chippewa Falls on March 29, 1968, as Cygnet Films. Cygnet Films made promotion films and training films for a variety of customers from the startup American Basketball Association to the United States Armed Forces. Cygnet changed its name to Spectrum Industries, Inc., in June 1969.

The original American Basketball Association (ABA) was a men's professional basketball league, from 1967 to 1976. The ABA ceased to exist with the American Basketball Association–National Basketball Association merger in 1976, leading to several teams joining the National Basketball Association and to the introduction of the 3-point shot in the NBA in 1979.

The film business introduced Spectrum to the education market and also to Hubbard Scientific Company. Spectrum acquired Hubbard Scientific in July 1975.

In the late 1980s the Manufacturing Division was manufacturing store fixtures and point of purchase displays, solid oak furniture, office furniture and computer furniture workstations. In the 1990s the corporate office was moved to Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. In June 1991, Hubbard Scientific was sold.

In 1991, Spectrum designed and manufactured computer laboratory furniture for personal computers. The manufacturing plant size grew by 100,000 square feet (9,300 m2), employment increased and the company's product range expanded. Spectrum expanded its Chippewa Falls facilities in December 2005. A 125,000-square-foot (11,600 m2) building was purchased adding capacity for metal fabrication, powder-coating and assemble-to-order product lines.

Throughout the past 42 years of operation, Spectrum Industries has been presented several awards.

Spectrum sponsors exhibitions and other activities related to technology, education and community development.

JA Worldwide is a global non-profit youth organization founded in 1919 by Horace A. Moses, Theodore Vail, and Winthrop M. Crane. JA works with local businesses, schools, and organizations to deliver experiential learning programs on the topics of work readiness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship to students from ages 5 to 25.

Relay For Life organization

Relay For Life is a community-based fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. Each year, more than 5,000 Relay For Life events take place in over twenty countries. Events are held in local communities, campus universities and in virtual worlds. As the American Cancer Society's most successful fundraiser and the organization's signature event, the mission of Relay For Life is to raise funds to improve cancer survival, decrease the incidence of cancer, and improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their caretakers.

157th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade

The 157th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, also known as the Iron Brigade, is based out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was formerly known as the 57th Field Artillery Brigade, at which time its subordinate organizations included the 1st Battalion, 126th Field Artillery Regiment and the 1st Battalion, 121st Field Artillery Regiment from the Wisconsin Army National Guard, plus the 1st Battalion, 182nd Field Artillery Regiment of the Michigan Army National Guard. Not to be confused with the famous "Iron Brigade" of the Civil War, its nickname was traditionally given to crack artillery units in the Civil War. The Flambeau River is a tributary of the Chippewa River in northern Wisconsin, United States. The Chippewa is in turn a tributary of the upper Mississippi River. The Flambeau drains an area of 1,860 square miles (4,800 km2) and descends from an elevation of approximately 1,570 feet (480 m) to 1,060 feet (320 m) above sea level. The Flambeau is an important recreational destination in the region. It is notable among canoeists in the Midwest for outstanding canoe camping, including excellent scenery, fishing and whitewater. Ray Zillmer

Ray Zillmer was an American attorney, mountaineer and conservationist. He is best known as the founder of the Ice Age Park and Trail Foundation, Inc. and originator of the Ice Age Trail. He was also instrumental in the conservation of land in the Kettle Moraine of southeast Wisconsin and had an indirect role in the creation of the National Trails System. He died in Milwaukee on December 13, 1960 of heart complications.
