Front Row Motorsports (FRM) is an American professional stock car racing team that currently competes in the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The team began running part-time in 2004 as Means-Jenkins Motorsports under a partnership with Jimmy Means and restaurant entrepreneur Bob Jenkins, with Jenkins becoming the full team owner in 2005. In the Cup Series, FRM currently fields two Ford Mustang GT teams full-time: The No. 34 for Michael McDowell and the No. 38 for Todd Gilliland and Zane Smith. It also fields the No. 36 part-time for Zane Smith and Todd Gilliland. In the Truck Series, they field the No. 38 Ford F-150 for Zane Smith.
JR Motorsports is an American professional stock car racing team that currently competes in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series, CARS Tour, and occasionally in the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series. The team is based in Mooresville, North Carolina, co-owned by former NASCAR Cup Series driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., his sister Kelley Earnhardt Miller, Kelley’s husband and former racer L.W. Miller, and the owner of his former Cup Series team, Rick Hendrick. As of 2022, the team fields four full-time entries in the Xfinity Series: the No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro SS full-time for Sam Mayer, the No. 7 Camaro full-time for Justin Allgaier, the No. 8 Camaro full-time for Josh Berry, and the No. 9 Camaro full-time for Brandon Jones. The team also fields the No. 88 Camaro part-time for Miguel Paludo and team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr..
David Leonard Gilliland is an American professional stock car racing driver and team owner. Since 2017, he has operated David Gilliland Racing, a team that races in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, ARCA Menards Series, and CARS Tour.
Todd Jeremey Gilliland is an American professional stock car racing driver. He competes full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 38/36 Ford Mustang for Front Row Motorsports and the No. 15/51 Mustang for Rick Ware Racing. He is the son of NASCAR driver and team owner David Gilliland.
Zane Micheal Smith is an American professional stock car racing driver. He competes full-time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, driving the No. 38 Ford F-150 for Front Row Motorsports and part-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 36 and 38 Ford Mustangs for FRM, as well as the No. 51 for Rick Ware Racing. He is the 2022 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion.

After two years of advertising their Gander Outdoors retail chain in the title sponsorship, company CEO Marcus Lemonis announced on September 15, 2020, that the sponsorship would switch back to the Camping World brand beginning in 2021, which was the same name of the series from 2009 to 2018.

The season started with the NextEra Energy 250 on February 18 at Daytona International Speedway, and concluded with the Lucas Oil 150 on November 4 at Phoenix Raceway. This was the final season of the Truck Series with Camping World as the title sponsor, as CEO Marcus Lemonis announced the brand would not return for the 2023 season. On August 26, 2022, it was announced that Craftsman would return as the Truck Series title sponsor, although the tool company is now owned by Stanley Black & Decker instead of Sears, who owned Craftsman when they were the series title sponsor from 1995 to 2008. This makes Stanley Black & Decker the series' third title sponsor.

The race was brought back to the schedule as a permanent addition after fan interest, and the race was made the official throwback race for the Truck Series. The race was held on May 7, 2021 in Darlington, South Carolina at Darlington Raceway, a 1.366 miles (2.198 km) egg-shaped oval permanent racetrack. The race took 147 laps to complete. After a massive crash near the end of the race took out almost all of the field, Sheldon Creed of GMS Racing would win the race, garnering his 6th win of his career and his first of the season. Ben Rhodes of ThorSport Racing and Carson Hocevar of Niece Motorsports would finish the podium, finishing 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

The race was held on Friday, March 4, 2022, in North Las Vegas, Nevada at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, a 1.5 miles (2.4 km) permanent D-shaped oval racetrack. The race was run over 134 laps. Chandler Smith of Kyle Busch Motorsports would win the race after making a last lap pass on Zane Smith. This was Smith's third career win, and the first of the season. This was Enfinger's 7th career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series win, and his first win since 2020. He would also earn a spot in the next round of the playoffs.
