Demauris Merchant Johnson (born June 11, 1995), better known by his stage name Spenzo, is an American rapper from Chicago. Spenzo is best known from his single "Wife 'Er" and from his collaborations with artists such as Young Thug, G Herbo and King Louie.

Career

In 2013, Spenzo released his breakthrough single "Wife 'Er", which was a freestyle recorded over an instrumental produced by Chicago producer Young Chop. [2] [3] Later in the year, he signed a record deal with Atlantic Records [4] [5] and released singles such as "Heaven Can Wait", calling for an end to the gang violence in Chicago. [6]

In 2014 Drake performed Spenzo's single "Wife 'Er" at the Chicago stop of his Drake Vs. Lil Wayne tour, [7] [8] he also released "I'm So Sorry" in collaboration with Young Thug. [9] Later in the year, Hip Hop artists Meek Mill and Maine Man released an alternative version of Spenzo's Young Thug collaboration, "I'm So Sorry". [10] [11]

In 2015, alongside Chicago artist King Louie, Spenzo released their single "Effortlessly". [12] and a collaboration with Tree titled "Doin Lines". [13]

Throughout 2016, Spenzo released singles such as "Big Amount [14] and a collaboration with Hip Hop artist G-O, titled "Set The Mood".[ citation needed ] In 2017, Spenzo released projects such as his album "Say No Mo" as well as a single featuring his brother Nuskie and Scoota Bussin titled "Thought It Was".[ citation needed ] In 2018, Spenzo released singles such as "Still Winter" and "Yesterday", which was produced by ChopSquadDivnci.[ citation needed ] Throughout 2019, Spenzo released singles such as "Swerve" [15] and remixed Kodak Black's single "Calling My Spirit" [16] as well as J Cole's single "Middle Child". [17]

In 2022, Spenzo released singles such as "Bigg Steppa", a collaboration with Chicago Hip Hop artist Bigga$tate, produced by Mafia Beatz. The single, released through Firehouse Studios was also featured on the No Jumper platform. [18] Later in the year, Spenzo, alongside Moncler Moon Boy & CP released their single "TFMB", which was produced by Mafia Beatz. [19]

On June 2, 2018, Spenzo was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon when police pulled over the vehicle he was in for speeding. Upon searching the vehicle police found Marijuana and a loaded .380 caliber Taurus pistol. [20]

Abduction

On February 14, 2023, Spenzo was the victim of a kidnapping and assault which reportedly stemmed from a social media argument with a rival gang member and fellow Chicago rapper known as Kiddo Curry. [21] [22]

Drill is a subgenre of hip hop music that originated in Chicago in the early 2010s. It is sonically similar to the trap music subgenre and lyrically similar to the gangsta rap subgenre. Early drill artists are noted for their explicit, confrontational style of lyricism and association with crime in Chicago, especially the Black Disciples and Gangster Disciples. The genre progressed into the American mainstream in 2012 following the success of pioneering rappers like Chief Keef, Lil Reese, Lil Durk, Fredo Santana, G Herbo, Lil Bibby and King Louie, who had many local fans and a significant internet presence alongside producer Young Chop. Other rappers, such as Edai, L'A Capone, RondoNumbaNine, SD, FBG Duck, Lil Jojo and producer Leek-E-Leek also contributed to the early drill scene. As the audience grew, media attention and the signing of drill musicians to major labels followed.

"The Language" is a song by Canadian rapper Drake from his third studio album Nothing Was the Same (2013). "The Language" was produced by frequent collaborator Boi-1da, along with additional production by Allen Ritter and Vinylz. It also features an outro from Cash Money Records founder Birdman. The song was serviced to mainstream urban radio on October 29, 2013, as the fourth single from the album in the US and has peaked at number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In 2013, he signed with fellow Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane's 1017 Records and gained further attention and praise for his debut mixtape with the label, 1017 Thug, released in February of that year.

Isaiah Rivera, known professionally as Wifisfuneral, is an American rapper from West Palm Beach, Florida. Best known for his association with fellow South Florida rapper XXXTentacion, he was chosen as part of XXL magazine's Annual Freshman Class in 2018. That same year, he signed with Interscope Records, although he released no major projects under the label. In early 2020, Wifisfuneral announced his retirement; however, this proved to be short-lived as he released his debut studio album, Pain? in August of that year.

Brytavious Lakeith Chambers, known professionally as Tay Keith, is an American record producer. Slime Language 2 is the second compilation album by American record label Young Stoner Life. It was released in conjunction with the label’s founder, Young Thug, and one of the label’s artists, Gunna. The compilation was released via the aforementioned Young Stoner Life and 300 Entertainment on April 16, 2021. It serves as a sequel to the 2018 release by the label and features outside guest appearances from Travis Scott, Drake, Rowdy Rebel, Lil Baby, Lil Uzi Vert, Coi Leray, Big Sean, Nav, Skepta, Future, YNW Melly, Yung Bleu, Sheck Wes, Kid Cudi, and Meek Mill.

"Solid" is a song released by American record label Young Stoner Life with American rappers Young Thug and Gunna featuring Canadian rapper Drake. It was released on April 16, 2021, as the fourth track from the main artist's second compilation album, Slime Language 2. A melodic trap song, it sees the rappers delivering verses about their relationship issues and the trust issues that stem from it. The song was originally intended for Drake's sixth album, Certified Lover Boy, as a collaboration between him and Gunna only.
