Folk metal is a fusion genre of heavy metal music and traditional folk music that developed in Europe during the 1990s. It is characterised by the widespread use of folk instruments and, to a lesser extent, traditional singing styles. It also sometimes features soft instrumentation influenced by folk rock.

Jonne Järvelä is the vocalist/guitarist of the Finnish band Korpiklaani. He is known in the folk metal scene for his yoiking and contributed the yoik on the Finntroll album, Jaktens Tid. He was once a member of the Sami music group Angelin tytöt. In 2011 he appeared in the song "Humppa Is My Neighbour" by the Russian band Troll Bends Fir and in the song "Leszek a Hold" by the Hungarian band Dalriada, in 2012 he played on the Varg Song "A Thousand Eyes" of the Guten Tag album.
Tervaskanto is the fourth studio album by the Finnish folk metal band Korpiklaani. It was released on 26 June 2007 through Napalm Records.
Korven Kuningas("King of the Woods") is the fifth studio album by the Finnish folk metal band Korpiklaani. It was released on March 21, 2008 through Nuclear Blast Records. A record deal was signed with the company in September 2007. The cover was painted on this album, unlike the last few album covers, which were created using Adobe Photoshop. It features the old man, Vaari, who was also present on the Tales Along This Road and Tervaskanto covers.

Yovan Nagwetch "Little Sun" is a Canadian songwriter, musician and activist living in Finland. He is the founder and main composer and arranger for the band, as well as lead vocals, flutes, and percussion.

Troll Bends Fir is a folk metal band from Saint Petersburg, Russia. Band members define their style as "beer folk", most lyrics are based on Scandinavian mythology and, as well as the band's image, are related to beer and brewing. TBF has its own recognizable sound combining traditional metal music instruments with violin and Irish whistle.

Jylhä is the eleventh studio album by the Finnish folk metal band Korpiklaani. Released on 5 February 2021, it features themes like folklore, nature, celebration and three murder stories, including the Lake Bodom murders.
