The Sports Authority of Goa commonly abbreviated as SAG, is a body owned fully by the Government of Goa. It is responsible for the development of sports in the Indian state of Goa. [1] It currently owns and maintains 14 sports complexes which include Olympic size swimming pools, FIFA approved football stadiums, jogging tracks and around 98 sports grounds all over the state.
The erstwhile state council of sports, renamed the Sports Authority of Goa has since its inception been rendering commendable service for the development of sports and games in Goa.
The Goa Olympic Association won hosting rights for the 3rd edition of the prestigious Lusofonia Games from the ACOLOP to be held from 18–29 January 2014. [2] [3] [4] The Enormous task of development of sports infrastructure and organisation of this international sporting spectacle lies with the Sports Authority of Goa.
The sports infrastructure in the state is said to get a major boost by June 2013 for the hosting of the Lusofonia Games. Construction of new sports complexes of international standards has been proposed and the fatorda sports complex (which includes the Fatorda Stadium) is set to get a multi-crore revamp for these games.

The 2004 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad and commonly known as Athens 2004, was an international multi-sport event held from 13 to 29 August 2004 in Athens, Greece. The I-League 2008–2009 season began on 26 September 2008 and finished on 16 April 2009 with a break in December for the Federation Cup and Durand Cup. Most games this season were played on Saturday's and Sunday's to attract larger crowds. The 2013 Mediterranean Games, officially known as the XVII Mediterranean Games and commonly known as Mersin 2013, was an international multi-sport event held from 20 to 30 June 2013 in Mersin, Turkey. Mersin was announced as the host city at the General Assembly of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (CIJM) on 23 February 2011. The GMC Athletic Stadium in Bambolim is the first integrated athletic complex in Goa. It has been constructed according to IAAF specifications and norms and has hosted the athletic events of 2014 Lusofonia Games. The field is covered with natural turf and has been used as the training ground for the FC Goa developmental squad. In 2020, it was chosen as one of the three venues to host for 2020-21 season of Indian Super League.
